Position Overview
Specialized Assignment Recruitment - Hazardous Materials (HazMat) Technician - Fire Captains
Specialized assignments will post on January 1st and close on December 31st of each year; employees who are interested in the assignment can apply throughout the year.
Interviews will be held only if a vacancy for the specialized assignment occurs.
When a vacancy for a specialized assignment occurs, an email will be sent at least one (1) week prior to the interview date(s). This email will announce the vacancy, include an application deadline, remind employees to apply if they are interested, and announce the date(s) of the interview date.
Eligible applicants will be invited to the interview.
Selection(s) will be made from the pool of candidates who interviewed for the current vacancy/vacancies.
If another vacancy occurs prior to December 31st an email will be sent out as listed above, new selection interviews will take place for that vacancy.
Minimum Qualifications
General Qualifications :
Must complete a Nevada State Fire Marshal Hazmat Technician certification within one year of assignment.
Must become truck certified within one year of assignment.
Fulfill all responsibilities of a Station 98 Team Member .
Nevada State Fire Marshal Hazmat Technician certification:
- This written exam is based on the IFSTA Hazardous Materials Technician book (2nd edition) and NFPA 1072.

Selection Process
The selection process will consist of a Selection Interview.
An email will be sent to the Fire Department at least one (1) week prior to the interview date(s) announcing the vacancy, application deadline, and the date(s) of the interview.

PAID LEAVE

Accrued at 216 hours per year after first year through fifth year;
Accrued at 264 hours per year sixth through twelfth year;
Accrued at 336 hours per year upon completion of twelfth year and beyond
SICK LEAVE
Accrued at one shift per month from date of hire
BEREAVEMENT LEAVE
For death of immediate family member, 48 hours off with pay per occurrence. An additional 48 hours of sick leave may be used for funeral services held 500 statute miles or more from the City of Henderson
