Therapeutic Visit Specialist

EAC Network, a not-for-profit social service agency that empowers, assists, and cares for over 62,888 of people in need through 100 programs across Long Island and NYC, seeks a Therapeutic Visit Specialist to work part time for its Nassau Supervised Visitation Program

The Therapeutic Visit Specialist position is a non-exempt position paying $25 per hour. The position is part time up to 18 hours per week.The office is located in Hempstead, NY. The role reports to Program Director.

Primary Purpose of Job:

The Therapeutic Visit Specialist is responsible for providing therapeutic supervised visitation for families referred by the court. The Therapeutic Visit Specialist utilizes independent discretion and judgment to work with families on how parenting impacts parent-child bond, focus on parent attunement to child's emotional experiences and facilitate healing conversations to assist families in transitioning from supervised visitation to reunification and/or unsupervised visitation when appropriate. The Therapeutic Visit Specialist will assist families in making connections with local resources for basic needs and those of their children.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Conduct intake/interviews and screenings for children and parents for the therapeutic program.

  • Provide office based therapeutic supervision of visits using policies and procedures established by the Therapeutic Supervised Visitation Program in facilitating therapeutic visits.

  • Conduct pre-visit and post-visit meetings, therapeutic supervision, intervening and educate during visits.

  • Assist with providing parents psycho-educational parenting workshops, positive parenting skill building and securing outside resources if needed.

  • Ensure that accurate and detailed case notes are written upon completion of each therapeutic visit.

  • Submit written reports as required by the court and program.

  • Assist and coordinate with the Program Director contact with the courts and DSS as needed.

  • Assist Program Director in completion of program statistics, reports, and scheduling when assigned.

  • Utilize the educational training, skills, and experience obtained from advanced degree to provide appropriate professional services, techniques, and strategies for clients and families.

  • Attend relevant training to be kept informed of current research and best practices in the field.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

  • Masters Degree in Social Work or Psychology, LMSW or LMHP required, with a minimum of 2 years supervised visitation experience and/or three years experience working with families or comparable experience required.

  • Must have knowledge of mental health, behavioral, child and family issues, and the court systems.

  • Therapeutic Supervised Visitation training preferred.

  • Must have good communication skills, both oral and written; must have the ability to work cooperatively with other agencies and professionals interfacing with program clients.

  • Must have the ability to handle volatile emergency situations independently and possess excellent interpersonal skills.

  • Must be proficient in computer applications or other automated systems such as spreadsheets, Microsoft Office applications, calendar, email and/or database software necessary to perform work assignments.
