Substance Abuse Counselor

EAC Network, a not-for-profit social service agency that empowers, assists, and cares for over 62,888 people in need through 100 programs across Long Island and NYC, seeks a Substance Abuse Counselor to work full time for its New Path Treatment Center program.

The Substance Abuse Counselor is a non-exempt position paying $25-35 per hour at 35 hours per week. Salary range for applicants who are Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor will be $25-30 per hour. Salary range for QHP (LMSW, LCSW, LMCH) applicants will be $30-35 per hour. The work schedule includes a day shift of 8:30AM-4:30PM and 1 evening shift of 12PM-8PM. The office is located in Hempstead, NY and the role reports to the Program Director.

    Primary Purpose of Job:

    The Substance Abuse Counselor is responsible for providing direct treatment services to clients of the New Path Treatment Center and oversight of interns of the program, and administrative and clinical supervision as needed in the absence of the Program Director.

    Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Conduct individual, family and group counseling sessions.

  • Provide consultation and treatment for family and related other individuals of clients.

  • Assess condition of client's progress and status during treatment sessions.

  • Record progress notes of each treatment session, detailing dates, types of counseling provided and nature of counseling, length of session and client progress.

  • Review client treatment plans as guide to treatment.

  • Plan, with Supervision and any criminal justice referral source, the long-range goals and any ancillary referral sources for clients.

  • Provide emergency coverage and crisis intervention.

  • Utilize the educational training, skills and experience obtained from advanced degree/certification to provide appropriate professional services, techniques and strategies for clients.

  • Customarily and regularly exercises discretionary powers.

  • Conduct random drug tests on clients.

  • Supervise and observe interns including accuracy of assigned tasks; progress notes, written documentation of attendance and meetings with faculty advisors, individual weekly supervision and responsibilities as required by college/university agreement.

  • Provide Administrative and clinical supervision in absence of Program Director

    Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required:

  • CASAC or QHP (LMSW, LCSW, LMHC).

  • QHP for at least three consecutive years preferred.

  • Possessing and maintaining a current and valid professional license/certification relevant to the position is a condition of employment and required for the position.

  • Minimum of three years of treatment experience in addiction services area required.

  • Must be proficient in computer applications or other automated systems such as spreadsheets, Microsoft Office applications, calendar, and email and/or database software necessary to perform work assignments.

  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills required.
