POWER COMPONENTS ENGINEER, (STARSHIP)
The Starship electrical hardware development team supports the mission to revolutionize orbital flight and space travel - opening access for humankind to establish new frontiers in space and ultimately become a multi-planetary species. RESPONSIBILITIES:
Able to serve as the responsible engineer and extreme owner for the design, analysis, fabrication, and qualification, of high-voltage batteries, traction inverters, power generation, power distribution, and other electromechanical components.
Thermal, structural, dynamic, and tolerance analysis for electro-mechanical assemblies using both hand calculations and finite element analysis
Participate in initial mechanical design, 3D models, and creation of production drawings and design data maintenance.
Failure analysis of components as it relates to thermal, loads, vibration and shock
Interface with machine shops and production teams to ensure final designs can be produced in accordance with overall project goals
Own the hardware delivery timeline and success through inception, design, assembly, test, and integration
Participate in internal design reviews and reviews with suppliers and customers
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, aerospace engineering, math, engineering or scientific discipline
2+ years of professional experience with mechanical/electromechanical hardware design and analysis
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
Strong first-principles understanding of engineering fundamentals
Hands-on experience with electromechanical design, prototyping, testing, and/or precision mechanical assembly
Experience in the use of hand calculations, finite element analyses (FEA), and computer-aided design software (CAD) in component design.
Solid understanding and application of GD&T
Basic domain knowledge of power component design fundamentals (e.g. motors, inverters, batteries, solar, or energy storage systems)
Exposure to high volume production designs with a focus on design for manufacturability
Excellent communicator with the ability to work well in an integrated team including daily interactions with technicians, engineers, managers, and suppliers
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be willing to travel as needed to Starbase launch facility – Brownsville, TX
Extended hours and weekend work may be required to support critical project and mission milestones
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
Pay Range:
Power Component Engineer/Level I: $100,000.00 - $120,000.00/per year
Power Component Engineer/Level II: $115,000.00 - $135,000.00/per year
Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.
Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX.
