Craven Community College Military Student Coordinator (Part-time) in Havelock, North Carolina

Occupational Summary

The Military Student Coordinator is responsible for fostering an environment that addresses the unique needs of military affiliated students. This position works collaboratively to support student services, instruction, VA, and financial aid in the planning, implementation, and monitoring of programs and services related to active duty and veteran students on the Havelock/Cherry Point campus.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assesses military affiliated student needs and collaborates with other College areas to implement strategies to increase veteran student success; serves as a liaison for eligible students with other departments
  • Cultivates and promotes an accelerated degree program that meets the needs of military affiliated students
  • Collaborates with the Associate Dean of Havelock Campus and the Office of Institutional Effectiveness to assess and continuously improve the military accelerated degree program
  • Meets with students regularly to conduct needs assessments (social, emotional, financial, etc.) and directs students to appropriate resources to ensure whole student success
  • Provides academic program advising to students enrolled in the military accelerated degree program
  • Monitors eligible students academic progress, course enrollment, and other reporting requirements
  • Collaborates with Veterans Affairs, Career and College Promise, and financial aid staff to ensure eligibility requirements are met
  • Maintains currency with all educational offerings in liberal arts and university transfer, career programs, workforce development, etc. to effectively match student needs and abilities with program and career opportunities
  • Collaborates with Craven County Schools Military Family liaison program to provide seamless services to military affiliated students and families
  • Participates in appropriate committees and task forces as assigned
  • Performs other job-related duties and projects as assigned in support of the Colleges mission, core values, and goals
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelors degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning. Two (2) years experience in student services or working with military populations.

Preferred: Military veteran. Experience in academic advising, career development or other related function.

  • Organizational and management practices applicable to the analysis and evaluations of programs, policies and operational needs
  • Knowledge of community college admissions, programs of study and registration processes
  • Knowledge of transfer requirements and articulation agreements
  • Knowledge of college policies and procedures, academic requirements, campus resources, student life and support services
  • Knowledge of customer service and customer relations principles
  • Current trends, technologies and initiatives relative to student success
  • Knowledge of student development theory, techniques, and research associated with ensuring the success of diverse student populations
