Job Summary
Provides accounting support to the various areas within the Controller’s Office including coordinating university tax compliance and reporting obligations.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Manages the review and approval process of various payments for Awards, Stipends, Independent Contractors, etc.
Responsible for communication and submission of monthly taxable fringe benefits to payroll, including but not limited to courtesy cars and moving expenses.
Responsible for coordinating UBIT review process, making applicable tax deposits, and annual submission of tax form 990-T.
Prepares and submits additional tax deposits and tax reports including sales tax and 1042 withholding tax.
Performs various reconciliations to ensure applicable taxes are accurate.
Assists with other necessary accounting functions to contribute to the effectiveness of the Controller’s Office and performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree in accounting or business and 5-7 years of accounting experience; OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Extensive experience and skills with all Microsoft Office programs and or applications and query tools will be needed.
Possess excellent interpersonal communication skills, personal integrity and meticulous attention to detail.
Ability to interpret and research federal, state and local tax regulations; and ability to work independently with minimal supervision is required of this position.
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference and fundamentals of generally accepted accounting principles. Able to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
The ability to effectively and efficiently problem solve including but not limited to the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and applying several abstract and concrete variables.
Preferred Qualifications
Governmental accounting and/or tax experience.
