How will you make an impact in this role?

Position Description

The incumbent will be accountable for accurate, efficient and timely accounting and reporting of expense and revenue accounting for Amex Assurance Co. and other AXP entities across major Report Lines ensuring strong controls and compliance and meeting related GAAP accounting guidance, policies and procedures. The role requires leading the team for sharp focus on the core delivery and consistently pursue improvement and innovation through process redesign and automation. The incumbent will be required to provide on site leadership support and guidance to his immediate team and beyond. A key focus of this role is to use the data and knowledge about Financials to create business insights for partners.

Purpose of the Role

The role is required to deliver accurate and timely accounting of expense and revenue accounting across Amex Assurance Co. and other AXP legal entities for key Report Lines and related analytics and reporting while ensuring strong controls and compliance with all related GAAP accounting guidance, policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Establish, maintain and continually improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the assigned processes of Revenue and Expense Accounting for Amex Assurance and other AXP legal entities, Analytics and Balance Sheet account Research and Clearance function.

  • Advance his / her area of functional expertise and ensure that integrity, control, and optimal functionality is maintained to ensure efficiency and effectiveness of financial accounting process and associated cost/quality metrics.

  • The incumbent shall ensure a consistently strong control and compliance environment meeting the applicable GAAP accounting guidance and policy, PRSA structure besides contractual and regulatory requirements as applicable.

  • Challenge the status quo and drive innovation and automation to reduce risk and enhance efficiency in core areas of accounting and analytics.

  • Provide leadership support and guidanceto immediate team and beyond

  • Design strong accounting process for product and service launch/ changes

  • Leverage General Ledger and Business system data warehouse to generate insights in support of business goals.

  • Participate and drive initiatives with partners in support of business goals.

  • Participate and drive effectiveness and improvement initiatives, within the team and more broadly across partner teams.

  • Display a digital attitude for process efficiency, control, data insights, business goals and compliance.

  • The incumbent will maintain and improve service levels with a variety of customers for complex and varied high financial processes involving material values. The process requires qualitative analysis and value addition to identify and address potential exposures, process re-alignment and re-engineering opportunities and waste elimination through an end-to-end view.

  • Ensure process standardization and controls through Audit support, metrics, CSA, internal reviews, support attestation of the process and meet requirements of Sarbanes Oxley Act

  • The incumbent is required to have strong customer servicing orientation to maintain close contact with customers / business partners, Technologies, and other teams for sustained delivery of core responsibilities.

  • Should be resilient and have strong responsiveness and understanding to respond independently and quickly to requests and situations related to the process, customers, and unique colleague issues.

  • Should have strong colleague interpersonal skills and maintain high level of esprit de corps in the team and with wider team on location

Minimum Qualifications

Academic Background

  • The incumbent should either be a Chartered Accountant or M.B.A with around 6 years of relevant post qualification experience or a B.Com (or equivalent) with minimum 10 years of relevant experience

Functional Skills/Capabilities

  • Strong accounting and control skills

  • Strong awareness AXP policies and related GAAP guidance

  • Deep knowledge of AXP ledgering and reporting system and good knowledge of AXP underlying business processes

Knowledge of Platforms

  • AXP Oracle GL, reporting, and business applications knowledge

  • Good knowledge of MS Office

  • Experience in performing accounting in compliance with US GAAP and IFRS

  • Experience in designing strong accounting for product and service launch/ changes

  • Experience in leading a team of professionals to deliver accounting and reporting services in a controlled manner

  • Experience in exercising influence without authority

  • Experience in working in a matrixed interconnected eco system designed for effectiveness in a collaborative setting

  • Strong collaborative and relationship building skills AND proven ability to effectively influence senior finance and business partners

  • Strong will to win; a self-starter, effective in working independently with limited supervision.

  • Strong skills in accounting, finance and finance system controls.

  • Understanding of various AMEX finance policies and practice and relevant GAAP, IFRS guidance.

  • High level of personal accountability

  • Strong analytical skills, good judgment, positive/independent/ structured approach

  • Strong colleague management skills .

  • Possessing strong problem solving, planning and analytical skills to facilitate and focus on continuous improvement, innovation.

  • Proficient in using standard MS office products especially in PowerPoint, Excel.
