Position Description

PRIMARY PURPOSE: Responsible for the support, coordination and continuous improvement of the Process Safety Management and/or Risk Management programs for the Kinder Morgan Terminals Eastern Area facilities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead the development, implementation, and sustainability of PSM and/or RMP programs across the various terminals to ensure company/regulatory best practices and procedures are understood, implemented and incorporated into operating discipline.

  • Establish a standardized approach for managing PSM and RMP in regulated facilities to ensure consistency and robustness of program across several locations.

  • Oversees the implementation of management system changes and performs field audits to ensure adherence with work processes.

  • Develops and maintains metrics (KPIs) for PSM work processes and documents PSM programs to demonstrate compliance with internal and external requirements. Collect, monitor, and analyze trends in Process Safety Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to proactively address deviations.

  • Ability to liaise with internal company and external consultant PSM support and auditing resources, when required. Lead or serve as a team member for compliance audits and PSM assessments in sister regions.

  • Train and mentor operations personnel on PSM/RMP compliance systems and obligations to understand, identify and mitigate process safety risk and consistent implementation.

  • Provide leadership and technical knowledge to identify hazards, evaluate the risk of those hazards, and assist in the development of effective solutions to mitigate risk.

  • Assist business units in timely completion and tracking of risk ranked action items.

  • Supports Commercial group in reviewing, evaluating, and developing PSM/RMP compliance programs of new processes and growth opportunities.

    Position Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: EDUCATION: Bachelor Degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, or related discipline, from an accredited academic institution is required. EXPERIENCE / SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE:

  • Working knowledge of regulatory compliance standards, 29 CFR 1910.119 Process Safety and 40 CFR Part 68 Risk Management program elements and demonstrated implementation of them in day to day operations.

  • A minimum of five years of progressive process safety experience.

  • Experience facilitating and/or participating in Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) and Hazardous Operability Studies (HAZOPs).

  • Experience in PSM auditing, auditing methodology, benchmarking, and training.

  • Ability to effectively lead, communicate, and implement program continuous improvement within a large organization.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and a driving record satisfactory to company and insurers.

  • Ability to attain a TWIC (Transportation Work Identification Credential) as issued by TSA.

  • Successful completion and passing of company drug screen, background check and respirator fit test.

  • Strong project management skills with the ability to lead multidisciplinary projects or strategic initiatives impacting the organization. Ability to manage multiple projects efficiently and accurately.

  • Ability to comfortably interact with employees at all levels in the office AND in the field.

  • Must have ability to effectively organize, prioritize and plan daily work in an unstructured work environment.

  • Strong leadership skills in coaching, mentoring, team building, problem solving, and training.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the incumbent may be required to stand; walk, sit, ascend/descend stairs; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, or crouch; talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, color perception and the ability to adjust focus.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Must be willing and able to work in a corporate office and field environment.

  • Must be willing and able to work in the outside in the plant/terminals environment, in all types of climate conditions.

  • Must be able to climb stairs, cranes, conveyor systems, tanks, up to 95 feet.

  • Travel to other field or corporate locations may be required depending on nature of ongoing work activities. Travel estimated below 40%.

  • Must be willing and able to carry a company provided cell phone and respond as needed 24/7.

  • Subject to PHMSA compliant drug testing program.

  • Extended periods of sitting may be required for administrative activities.
