DESCRIPTION OF WORK As a Roadway Programs Technician 2, you will perform specialized field testing as part of the Pavement Evaluation and Testing Unit. Testing programs include lightweight profiling, high-speed profiling, walking profiling, and pavement friction. These programs are designed to evaluate the friction and roughness of paved roadway surfaces. In this position, you will determine the manner and method of testing, keep accurate records of testing conducted, work with paving contractors to coordinate testing, and report findings in reports and in our databases. To perform testing, you will calibrate instruments and conduct routine maintenance on equipment, and frequent overnight statewide travel, weekend, and night work may sometimes be required. You will also have the opportunity to serve as a lead operator, technical expert, and liaison for various PennDOT functions and participate in career development activities. Work Schedule and Additional Information: Full-time employment. Regular work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch. Field work will be conducted on an alternate work schedule which is Monday - Wednesday 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM with 30-minute lunch, Thursday 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM with 30-minute lunch, and off on Friday. Extensive overnight statewide travel. Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time up to 3 days per week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: One year as a Roadway Programs Technician 1; or One year of experience in analysis of data utilized in planning and scheduling of work, materials and equipment, and an Associate's Degree in the field of Business Administration, Computer Science, Highway Engineering Technology or closely related program; or Any equivalent combination of experience and training.
