Do you have experience in the regulation of food safety? If so, this may be a position for you! The Division of Food Safety plays a critical role in protecting Pennsylvanians and our visitors by regulating the tens of thousands of eating and drinking establishments, retail food stores, and food manufacturers found across the state to ensure compliance with food safety laws.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK The primary duty of this role is to carry out a wide range of inspections related to food safety across various establishments, such as dairy farms, produce farms, retail food facilities, manufacturing facilities, milk processing facilities, and distribution and warehousing facilities. In order to ensure safety and compliance, the position involves sampling food and milk products and sending them to the Food Laboratory for analysis when necessary. Additionally, the role includes inspecting fruits and vegetables and reviewing documentation to ensure proper labeling. Furthermore, the position is responsible for issuing federal grading certificates and preparing correspondence to facility owners, the public, and the department supervisor.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

Full-time employment Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. Position will be home headquartered if applicant lives in Bradford, Sullivan, or Tioga County. If applicant does not live in the counties listed above, the assigned state vehicle must be parked in one of those counties, and the work day will start at 8:00 AM at the location of the assigned state vehicle. Occasional overtime for training and facilities operating on non-work days and outside of work hours. Occasional overnight travel required. QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: A bachelor's degree in food science, food technology, chemistry, microbiology, or a closely related field; or An equivalent combination of experience and training. Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree/credits.
