DESCRIPTION OF WORK The Edge Control (Network Specialist 2) is a highly technical and hands-on network position. It is focused on, but not limited to, the direct hands-on support, evaluation, and design of the Commonwealth's information technology network infrastructure. You will serve as a team leader for technical staff direction as well as provide second tier, and back up first tier, support for all network teams, network users, and remote IT staff regarding the access and use of established network resources and for all edge networks, field and specialty networks, and statewide fiber networks and initiatives.

In this position, you will also attend seminars, conferences, and training classes as well as conduct research to help you stay current on new and emerging information services, products, and technology developments. Other travel may involve visiting remote sites throughout the Commonwealth to fulfill network duties and provide support. You will also have the opportunity to assist other networking teams in the review of plans, designs, and implementations of complex networks to enable the integration of network operating systems, platforms, and protocols to enhance network performance and security. Work Schedule and Additional Information: Full-time employment. Work hours are 7:30 am to 4:00 pm, Monday - Friday, with 60-minute lunch. Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) full-time is preferred. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection. QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: One year of experience as a Network Specialist 1; or Four years of information technology experience that includes one year of technical experience in network operation or network maintenance; or Two years of information technology experience that includes one year of technical experience in network operation or network maintenance, and an associate's degree in any information technology field; or An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes one year of technical experience in network operation or network maintenance.
