This is a multiple-position posting for five field engineering positions located in the southwest, southcentral, southeast, and northwest general regions of the state. These positions are being dual posted as Civil Engineer Trainees. If the positions are filled as Civil Engineer Trainees, the incumbents will participate in a one year formal on-the-job training program to learn the duties of a Civil Engineer (Hydraulic). Interested candidates will need to submit separate applications to be considered for the alternate job title.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK As a Civil Engineer (Hydraulic), you will function as project specialist in the Division of Dam Safety's Field Engineering Section and will be involved in performing a variety of journey-level civil engineering work such as hydrology, hydraulics, and general monitoring requirements for dams under the provisions of the Dam Safety and Encroachments Act, including the Chapter 105 Dam Safety and Waterway Management rules and regulations, the Clean Streams Law, and the Flood Plain Management Act.

The mission of the division is to protect the lives and property of Pennsylvanians living downstream of dams by preventing dam failures through technical analysis, inspection, monitoring, and compliance. Team members in the division find the career to be both rewarding and meaningful in its mission with a nice mix of office and field work, all while actively working on projects from conceptual design through construction.

Work Schedule and Additional Information: Full-time employment Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with 60-minute lunch. Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) full-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the assigned location. Work location: These positions will have flexible headquarters at various DEP offices depending on the assigned general region of the state for each position and the home address of each selected candidate. Offices will be DEP regional or district offices in their assigned general region of the state. Counties include: Crawford, Clarion, Lawrence, Allegheny, Washington, Westmoreland, Cambria, Centre, Blair, Dauphin, Berks, Schuylkill, Lehigh, and Montgomery. Travel: These positions require regular travel throughout the state on both day and overnight trips, including near-daily travel in the general region of the state where each position is located. QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: Five years of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty, and an Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists; or Successful completion of the Civil Engineer Trainee training program (commonwealth title); or Four years of civil engineering exper ence in the appropriate specialty, and an engineer-in-training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists, and an associate's degree in civil engineering technology or a closely related engineering discipline; or One year of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty, and a bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a closely related engineering discipline. Special Requirement: These positions require possession of a valid Class C driver's license. Other Requirements: PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
