JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS: Penn State Harrisburg, a comprehensive College of The Pennsylvania State University, is excited to welcome applications and nominations for the 12-month position of Addiction and Prevention Coordinator, Mental Health Counselor - Senior Professional at Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS). We are seeking a trauma-informed mental health clinician who has training, expertise, and experience counseling with the unique needs of clients who present as high-risk and or with addictive behavior concerns that may include substance misuse (alcohol, other drugs, or nicotine), a combination of misused substances, or behavioral addictions (including but not limited to): gambling, gaming, internet use, sexual activity, exercise, food, and eating restriction. Reporting to the Director of Counseling and Disability Resources, the Coordinator provides mental health support services and prevention programming to students with a focus on addictive behaviors and high-risk mental health presentations at Penn State Harrisburg.

The successful candidate will have high cultural competency in clinical, outreach, supervision, training, and experience serving diverse populations, with professional experience providing trauma-informed addiction counseling and serving high-risk clients from historically marginalized identities. The Coordinator will develop and provide addiction and psychological prevention programs and trauma-informed mental health services to Penn State Harrisburg students. This position trains and supervises our NASPA-certified peer educator's student Peer Advocates for Wellness Services (PAWS) Ambassadors program at CAPS in collaboration with Student Health Services and Student Disability Resources. The Coordinator also participates in supervising graduate-level trainees and supervising counselors seeking licensure (if independently licensed).

CAPS supports students through high-quality and accessible responsive care and prevention. We promote students' diverse well-being through psychological, outreach, case management, and consultation services. We provide training to emerging mental health professionals and supervision to those seeking licensure. Position Responsibilities

Provide brief trauma-informed individual, couples and group counseling, assessment, crisis counseling, and case management services for undergraduate and graduate students seeking help for emotional and behavioral concerns, with focus on addictive behaviors and high-risk concerns.

Coordinate provision of Brief Alcohol Screening and Intervention for College Students (BASICS) and Cannabis Screening and Education for College Students (CASECS) curriculum at CAPS for residential students referred in violation of substance use policies.

Train and supervise the certified Peer Advocates for Wellness Services (PAWS) Ambassador student workers that assist with outreach, peer education, and promotion.

Develop and lead addiction and mental health outreach prevention programming.

Partner with supervisor and other campus staff to coordinate urgent mental health crisis services.

Participate in counselor duty or "on-call" access coverage during regular business hours.

Assist Director with coordinating clinical coverage schedules.

Consult with faculty, staff, parents, and others on issues of student care and concern.

Participate in CAPS graduate training program activities such as providing trainee seminars and contributing during the trainee selection process.

Maintain current, accurate, and timely clinical documentation following state and federal law, professional ethics, and CAPS policies.

Prepare campus DFSCA Biennial Review Report under the Health Wellness and Promotion department.

Participate in CAPS and university committees as assigned.

Participate in clinical supervision and weekly clinical case consultation at CAPS.

Independent licensure in Pennsylvania or the ability to obtain independent state licensure within 6 months of hire.

Actively participate in professional associations and training sessions.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree or higher in Psychology, Counseling, or Social Work from an accredited program.

Licensed or license-eligible in Pennsylvania as a Social Worker or equivalent in Psychology or Counseling.

Strong trauma-informed clinical skills.

Experience in handling crises.

Strong interpersonal skills.

Team oriented and highly collaborative.

Highly organized with attention to detail.

Direct clinical experience serving clients with addictive behavior and high-risk concerns.

Experience and knowledge of relevant cultural factors and the specific developmental, mental health, and academic concerns of identity-specific students.

Evidence of cultural humility, advocacy, and commitment to authentic relationship building serving diverse populations.

Ability to work independently in the United States is required for employment.

Candidates must provide successful Child Abuse Reporting clearances, FBI Fingerprinting, and state criminal background checks prior to hire.

Appropriate licensure must be obtained/maintained according to PA laws.

Preferred Qualifications

Bilingual or multilingual clinical skills.

Supervision experience and program coordination in a mental health setting.

Experience in a university counseling center.

Experience working in a time-limited model of care with clients presenting in acute distress.

Familiarity with BASICS/CASECS programs.

Experience and strong interest in providing outreach presentations and psychotherapy clinical group work.
