Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Actuarial Associate Trainee in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As an Actuarial Associate Trainee, you will participate in a training program designed to develop technical competence in the understanding and application of basic actuarial standards, procedures, and insurance laws related to the analysis of property and casualty (P&C) insurance rates, rating procedures, rating plans, statistics, schedules, and rules.  You will be able to assist with review and analysis in order to determine conformance to statutory and regulatory requirements.  This position also affords the opportunity to compile and assist with the analysis of P&C insurance statistics for special projects to include data calls, surveys and summaries that support testimony, consumer education, press releases, and actuarial and policy decisions.

You will learn how to correspond with insurers to obtain additional information, request revisions, or identify potential federal or state law violations as it pertains to P&C insurance rates, rules, and statistics with guidance from a supervisor or more senior actuarial staff.  You will also gain exposure to a variety of rate making standards and procedures for P&C insurance including, but not limited to personal auto, homeowners, general liability, professional liability, workers compensation, property, crop, flood, and inland marine to experience different rating formulas with guidance from more senior actuarial staff or supervisors.  Professional growth and development is encouraged through participation in exams, seminars, webinars, literature readings, or other available resources.

Work Schedule and Additional Information: Full-time employment Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch. Schedule may be flexible based upon operational needs.

Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) full-time, however you will be required to report to the office 1 day per month.  In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania.  If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. Salary:In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable. QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: An associate degree that includes 12 college credits in actuary science, data science, finance, economics, mathematics, statistics, or a closely related field; or Completion of one part of the Society of Actuaries examination or Casualty Actuarial Society examination; or An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes 12 college credits in actuary science, data science, finance, economics, mathematics, statistics, or a closely related field.
