UPMC CT Technologist, Trainee in Hanover, Pennsylvania

Perform requested studies and manipulate data requiring the use of CT. The trainee will be trained on proper protocol while shadowing and completing CT training to demonstrate ability to fulfill all functions carried out below. The Trainee will be supervised by an RT (CT) registered CT Technologist.

Responsibilities:

  • Under the supervision of Proctor/CT instructor/CT Tech, properly documents appropriate histories and completes all necessary paperwork.

  • Under the supervision of Proctor/CT instructor/CT Tech, trainee will shadow until deemed capable to perform daily CT scans, using proper protocols, procedures, and safety guidelines.

  • Educates patients on all aspects of the CT procedure.

  • At completion of training should be able to properly screen all patients for any contraindication prior to performing CT scan.

  • All candidates for the CT Tech Trainee program must meet and agree to the criteria below: Must be ARRT or ARDMS registered. Must be willing to work rotating shifts as needed for patient care. After successfully passing the Registry exam, will be moved into a CT Technologist position if one is available.

  • Monitors and maintains current department inventory.

  • Performs clerical responsibilities as needed.

  • Exhibits a positive and professional image with patients, physicians, co-workers, and peers.

  • Maintains inter- and intra- departmental communications.

  • After successful completion of training program, the trainee should be able to demonstrate administering contrast for specific examinations.

  • After successful completion of training program, the trainee should be able to demonstrate processes and evaluates QC on processor and CT scanner daily as assigned.

  • After successful completion of training program, the trainee should be able to demonstrate competence to perform required scans on patients of all ages.

  • Participates with Performance Improvement projects.

  • Complies with Imaging and hospital policies and procedures.

  • Performs on call duties as assigned.

  • Graduate of approved School of Radiography.

  • Must be currently enrolled in an Advanced Imaging Tech Training program.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

ARRT Registered or Registry Eligible. ARRT CT certification is required after completion of the training program:

The maximum timeframe for completion of the CT program is 6 months with one extension available at 3 months.

Required to sit for the ARRT CT exam no later than 3 months after completion of the training program. Must remain in the department for two (2) years after ARRT CT certification and registration are achieved.

Failure to meet this requirement may result in the need to reimburse UPMC for expenses paid for participation in the program and/or becoming ineligible for promotion as a CT Technologist.

Maintains current CPR certification. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or successful completion of BLS training and certification upon hire.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

  • Act 31 with renewal

  • Act 33 with renewal

  • Act 34 with renewal

  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
