HBSS Administrator - IT SME Functional Area Lead

Job Summary:

The HBSS Administrator Functional Area Lead will provide Information Assurance and product integration support on the HBSS (Host-Based Security Solution) tool suite and Host Intrusion Prevention System (HIPS).This project operates 24x7x365 operations, day, evening, night and weekend shifts. Candidates must be willing to work shifts.


  • Strong communications skills (message management).

  • Participate in weekly site team lead meetings and disseminate messages to be shared with functional area employees.

  • Represent IAFNOS from a functional area perspective in daily meetings, functional area summits and ensure project and functional area messaging is communicated clearly and professionally, emphasizing a single IAFNOS team (meaning all locations, not just one) when speaking.

  • Supervise functional area team, provide performance feedback, training, mentoring, and develop and communicate each team members growth path and provide continual feedback on progress of employee’s progress toward this growth path.

  • Work with other locations to build a culture of a unified team environment.

  • Advise management on employee’s progress, or lack thereof toward the growth path defined to the employee and other observations regarding each employee’s performance.

  • Develop, coordinate and communicate shift schedules, ensure shift coverage requirements are met as well as TPI, clearance compliance per shift and ensure employees do not feel stuck on a shift.

  • Ensure that as attrition occurs that remaining employees are considered for promotion prior to communicating staffing needs to the site lead.

  • Manage timesheets and employee leave schedules.

  • Participate and encourage employee appreciation initiatives.

  • Create and maintain an environment conducive to employees feeling comfortable expressing concerns or issues.

Required Skills:

  • Provides high-level subject matter proficiency for work described in the task. Provides advanced technical knowledge and analysis of highly specialized applications and operational environment, high-level functional systems analysis, design, integration, documentation, training, and implementation advice on complex problems that require extensive knowledge of the subject matter for effective implementation.

  • Provide system analysis, troubleshooting and integration support for HBSS(Host-Based Security Solution)on the AFNET (Air Force Enterprise Network).

  • Install, troubleshoot, and sustain the McAfee HBSS ePO agent, handlers, Super Agent Distributed Repository (SADR) servers on NIPR and SIPR enclaves.

  • Deploy and manage client End Point Products, collect, secure and manage activities.

  • Support daily operations and deployment of all HBSS modules on server and workstation nodes, review threat events in Host Intrusion Prevention System (HIPS), analyze firewall rule sets and maintain HIPS trusted network policy for network devices, applications and services.

  • Apply applicable STIGS, IAVM directives and CTO instructions to the architecture.

  • Support event management activities on the network, monitor, detect, analyze, and respond to new and rogue clients on the network.

  • Monitor and maintain network event logs


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience

  • 12 years of experience

  • 3-5 years’ experience providing Network/Server administration in an enterprise (>3000 users) environment.

  • Experience with analysis, troubleshooting and integration support for HBSS on the AFNET.

  • Prior experience in a military (Air Force) enterprise environment is preferred.

Certifications Required:

  • DoD 8570 requirement IAT Level II. (Example: Security )

  • DISA HBSS MR 5 Admin

  • DISA HBSS MR 5 Advanced

  • Intel Security Product Specialists – ePolicy Orchestrator Administrator

  • ITIL v3 Foundation for Service Management


  • Possess a DoD Secret security clearance, preferably a Top Secret security clearance
