Langley Research Center Equipment Facilities and Services Specialist in Hampton, Virginia

Summary You will serve as an Equipment Facilities and Services Specialist in the Manufacturing Applications Branch of the Engineering Directorate at Langley Research Center (LaRC). Responsibilities Participates in basic concept and feasibility studies, and designs, develops and tests new or modified equipment prior to release for production to ensure mechanical reliability and safety of the equipment. Coordinates and schedules high-level meetings and briefings, maintains and, as necessary, develops selected reports to assist senior level staff with the management of tasks and projects. Formulates long range plans for developing lines of business, including forecasting upcoming opportunities, potential partnerships, long range planning of projects, and resource requirements for project formulation and proposal development. Advises in developing production procedures and techniques where intensive knowledge of the equipment is required. Performs a combination of some or all the following such as advisory services in the specialty area to those who design, test, produce, supply, operate, repair, and dispose of test articles and equipment. Determines or recommends the requirements for the appropriate (spare) parts, tools, and operating instructions to support equipment during tests. Adheres to existing operational procedures, configuration mandates and Langley Research Ccenter standards of facility operation and operation of experimental devices. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. To qualify for GS-13, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level: Assisting in management of the manufacturing process of composite test articles and models, leveraging advanced manufacturing systems such as computer numerical control (CNC) fabric ply cutter and autoclave operation; Utilizing principles, concepts, and practices involving equipment, facility, or service operations to perform assignments using equipment and to enhance equipment maintenance; and Communicating with various audiences (e.g. researchers, technicians, senior leaders, internal or external customers, etc.) to provide guidance, status updates, or assistance.
