OPW Controls Engineer in Hamilton, Ohio

The Controls Engineer plans, directs, and executes manufacturing engineering projects related to manufacturing methods, processes, facilities, and equipment. Implements manufacturing processes of new and existing products/product lines with the emphasis on integrating and using the safest and most efficient methods available. Actively interfaces with operations team to continuously improve existing processes.  Provides technical expertise to support daily operations and to achieve significant improvement in production related objectives. As a controls engineer, you will supervise and analyze the systems involved with equipment production. Your primary goal is to optimize the design, layout, and device placements. A controls engineer can expect to manage the following responsibilities.

  • Identifies new equipment, technologies, and processes to improve safety and efficiency of manufacturing processes.
  • Leading engineering and automation teams through concept planning, configuration, and development
  • Testing and troubleshooting various mechanical and electrical systems
  • Providing technical support and instruction to organization members
  • Developing technical documentation of projects and maintenance
  • Monitoring system performance and functionality
  • Develop and optimization of control systems, equipment, and machinery.
  • Analyze, design, and implement Robotic Process Automation (RPA) solutions.
  • Own, maintain and approve all schematics for new and existing equipment.
  • Develop control system graphics and configure control system databases.
  • Perform controls systems assessments to maintain and improve equipment reliability.
  • Delivers advanced manufacturing / industrial engineering assistance to operations team on methods and the application of such methods and assists in resolving difficulties that arise.
  • Performs analysis to determine optimum process and methods. 
  • Demonstrates ability to foresee common manufacturing difficulties and plan alternate options. Demonstrates leadership in the assigned group of processes. Develops standard work.
  • Drives the investigation of solutions to technical problems experienced in manufacturing. 
  • Applies Lean Principles and concepts to develop processes. Responsible for improving manufacturing processes to meet goals of Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost, including organizing and leading Lean Manufacturing events and activities to drive continuous improvement efforts.
  • Participates in and/or leads reviews of efficient & cost effective methods for the fabrication of parts, finishing and assembly components, and subassemblies for final products.
  • Provides technical guidance to engineering, supply chain, and operations in various projects and responsibilities.
  • Provides input for manufacturing assembly costs and equipment recommendations.
  • Works closely with the Operations department in assuring all costs, processes, and routings are input into Oracle in the most expedient manner possible for all products.
  • Prepares capital expenditure requests, including frequent dialogue with operations leadership, finance, and outside suppliers and agencies.
  • Participates in the tiered accountability process and attends meetings as needed to support organization activity.
  • Performs other duties, as assigned, to achieve corporate and departmental objectives.

Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering preferred

Minimum four (4) years' manufacturing engineering experience with demonstrated track record of success and performance
