Section 1: Summary of Job Function
Comments
Performs in-patient and out-patient echocardiography testing,
Assists physician with performing stress echo and trans esophageal testing,
Maintains equipment in good working order, selects appropriate settings,
Section 2: Job Qualifications/Education/Training/Certification/Licensure
Comments
Education:
High School Graduate, graduate of approved school for cardiopulmonary technology
Field currently proposing minimum of an Associate Degree in Science,
Experience:
Up to 24 months of clinical ECHO testing experience desired, in house training will be considered
Certification/Licensure:
Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer by the American Registry for Diagnostic Sonography required

Job Specific Requirements
Keeps staff informed of current work status,
Provides timely schedule,
Proactively works to insure equitable work assignments,
Understands and follows technical criteria for analyzing preliminary reports,
Intimate knowledge of cardiac anatomy and physiology and extensive EKG experience,
Verifies physician order prior to administering test procedure,
Perform echo cardiograms, stress echos and TEE s,
Effectively interacts with physicians, nurses and other ancillary staff,
Assists fellow sonographers with workload when appropriate,
Acts as preceptor for new employees,
Prepares and instructs patient on procedure,
Follows proper method to apply for specific echo procedure,
Expresses a thorough understanding of echocardiography equipment and its physiological applications,
Documents all pertinent information,
Prepares test results for physician reading and interpretation,
Assists with clerical work and scheduling patient testing,
Appropriately prioritizes tasks,
Coordinate quarterly quality assurance/ quality improvement meetings with physicians and echo technicians,
Review and update policies and procedures related to cardiac sonography,
Organize and lead in-service training for current staff and new hires,
Ensure compliance of all Joint Commission Standards/ ASE/ and the guidelines of the ICAEL,
Monitor productivity and budgetary parameters,
Complies with infection control policies,
Insures correct patient identification through the routine use of two patient identifiers,
Updates orders as needed,
