LORAM Maintenance of Way Inc Superintendent, Field Operations - Ballast and Grade in Hamel, Minnesota

Job Title: Superintendent, Fleet Operations FLSA Status: Exempt Department: Fleet Operations Reports to: Assistant Manager, Fleet Operations GENERAL DESCRIPTION / PURPOSE: The Superintendent, Fleet Operations is responsible for leadership and oversight of an assigned machine in the business unit. Primary responsibilities include safe operations and crews, maintenance excellence and housekeeping, on-the-job training, certification compliance, and talent and performance management for all crew members, resulting in service delivery excellence, through competent and engaged crews. Deliver unrivaled customer service by maintaining a well-disciplined and motivated crew and a safe and reliable machine. Responsible for the entire crew adhering to all Loram, customer, and industry rules, policies, and procedures to operate at the highest possible levels of safety awareness. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Leadership and Talent Development Lead machine crew members ranging from 2 - 16 people Identify candidates among the assigned crew for advancement, review with Assistant Manager, and provide them hands-on training and other learning opportunities and coaching for their development Identify performance or behavioral issues among crew members and coach for correction, while consulting with Assistant Manager for possible disciplinary action Responsible machine crew\'s compliance with certifications, safety, and training requirements Direct and assist the training of new employees in company policies, machine operations, maintenance practices, safety procedures, and unique customer requirements Safety and Operational Excellence Maintain a disciplined operation, including enforcement of standard operating practices and safety procedures at the crew level Responsible for service reliability by ensuring scheduled preventive maintenance is being performed and correcting all equipment defects in a timely manner to assure consistent product quality and a reliability target of at least 98%. Understand and deliver operating efficiency in accordance with the corresponding performance metrics. Business Management and Cost Control Control the key cost drivers of the operation to meet budgeted targets, specifically labor, material, and travel Manage and audit onboard machine inventory to ensure authorized levels are maintained Elevate chronic machine failures for component or process improvement Communications Develop and maintain relationships with key contacts on customer railroads, to manage service and quality expectations, maximize track access and production and, if necessary, handle disputes prior to escalation Create written production and incident reports for both internal and external customers Facilitate and resolve misunderstandings, and ambiguity and know when to seek help from Assistant Manager and/or Manager Communicate effectively when speaking with a small group of employees and customers in the field to provide effective job briefings, work instructions, and rules reviews. BEHAVIORAL COMPETENCIES: Safety Awareness Values-Based Leadership Personal Accountability Resilience Action Oriented Takes Direction and Effectively Executes REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Education: High School Diploma/Equivalent Experience: 1+ years of understanding Loram Maintenance of Way equipment\'s role in a highly demanding customer service environment. 1+ years demonstrating the ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing. 1+ years demonstrating techniques such as mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and machine operations. 1+ years of managing 24-hour operations, and the ability to focus on machine maintenance to maximize performance and ensure a safe working environment for railroad and Loram personnel. 1+ years of demonstrating the ability to learn best practices, continuously improve maintenance processes, a d passion for teaching others. Licenses/Certifications: All Railroad Specific Certifications to operate on track, Loram Operating Rules Certification, All Loram Required E-Learning, On the Job, and 3rd Party Safety Training. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: A working knowledge of railroads, transportation, heavy construction, or combination. Knowledge of or ability to quickly become familiar with Railroad products and services, particularly pertaining to maintenance of tracks and structures. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Education: Technical Certification Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Leadership training and certifications in the field.
