Abbott Director R&D AAS Germany in Hamburg, Germany

THE POSITION

  • Hamburg based Site Manager of Research and Development (R&D) organization, working with the in Hamburg based team as well as actively promotes further development and innovation.

  • Member of the Abbott Automation Solutions (AAS) Business Unit management team with R&D site responsibility Hamburg

  • Close coordination with the development management (based in the United States) and coordination of the Cooperation with the R&D site in the United States

  • The position holder leads a team of approx. 70 employees in 4 teams.

  • Position reports to AAS R&D management in the United States

THE AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY

  • Full operational and strategic responsibility for the R&D area for Hamburg & Freiburg teams to support both the development of the existing solution portfolio and innovations aligned with business unit strategy.

  • Leadership and motivation of the local R&D team, including the promotion of professional skills, competencies, and capabilities.

  • Coordination, implementation and monitoring Research and Development

  • Collaboration with global R&D sites to develop best practices in focus areas of systems, software, mechanical, and electrical engineering to support transformation of innovative ideas to developed product solutions.

  • Collaboration with other departments, in particular operations, marketing, and Sales to optimize product commercialization.

  • Identification and evaluation of new technologies and market trends

  • Compliance with quality standards and regulatory requirements

  • Budget planning and control for the site R&D organization

  • Monitor market and technology trends to identify new Business opportunities.

  • Maintaining partnerships with external research institutions and universities

  • Presentation of research results and progress compared to the management and other stakeholders.

  • Ensuring efficient and effective product development through application of agile methods

  • Promoting a culture of innovation and continuous improvement

  • Representation of the R&D department within the business unit as well as in external Events

  • Participation in cross-divisional, cross-company and/or cross-group projects

PROFIL CANDIDATE

  • Completed studies in a (medical) technical or scientific field Field

  • Several years of experience in a leadership role in the R&D department of a medical technology company, ideally with references to the topics of automation and/or Diagnostics

  • Experience in managing and planning R&D budgets and resource planning.

  • Proven success in the implementation of R&D projects

  • Sound knowledge of the relevant regulatory requirements and quality standards

  • Experience in dealing with agile development methods.

  • Strong leadership and communication skills in decentralized structures

  • Capacity for interdisciplinary and international cooperation as well as for active Networks

  • Experience in (multi-)project management.

  • Analytical thinking skills and problem-solving approach

  • Fluent in German and English
