Overview:

The Florida Gaming Control Commission is responsible for exercising all regulatory and executive powers of the state with respect to legal gaming, including pari-mutuel wagering, cardrooms, slot machine facilities, oversight of gaming compacts, and other forms of gambling authorized by state law, excluding the Lottery, as well as directly enforcing Florida’s gaming laws and combatting illegal gambling activities.

The agency is overseen by five Commissioners who are appointed by the Governor, with Commissioners appointing an Executive Director who leads a team of 198 staff members. The mission of the Florida Gaming Control Commission is to preserve and protect the integrity of gaming activities through fair regulation, licensing, effective criminal investigation, and enforcement.

Position Duties and Responsibilities:

The Licensing Clerk works under the direction of the Pari-Mutuel Southern Region Manager to provide assistance to individuals and businesses requiring state occupational licenses to work at pari-mutuel facilities. The duties are as follows:

  • Timely and accurately processes applications for personnel requiring state occupational licenses to work at pari-mutuel facilities in accordance with current policies and procedures.

  • Responsible for processing fingerprints of licensing applicants and forwarding all applicable reports in the timeframe specified for each individual report.

  • Assists and responds to any unscheduled assignments as requested to achieve specified deadline requirements.

  • Completes all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong communication skills, including, but not limited to ability to read, analyze, and interpret rules, regulations, polices, and procedures.

  • Detail oriented with strong computer skills, and the ability to navigate through state and other licensing databases.

  • Ability to read and comprehend correspondence and memos, draft correspondence, and successfully present information in one-on-one or small group situations to customers and other employees in the division, as well as maintain strong, positive relationships with colleagues, customers, and other employees.

  • Ability to accurately collect and handle money.

    Preferred Qualifications, not required:

  • Fluent in both English and Spanish.

    Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED).

    Where you will work:

    This position is located in Hallandale Beach, Florida at Gulfstream Park Racetrack and Casino and requires the incumbent to work three scheduled weekdays and Saturdays and Sundays, except State observed holidays.

  • This is an Other Personal Services (OPS) position. This position does not accrue leave and is not eligible for paid holidays. This is a part-time position; the incumbent will work approximately 30 hours per week. OPS employees are required to participate in the Florida FICA Alternative Plan and are automatically enrolled. The Florida FICA Alternative Plan affords OPS employees an excellent opportunity to help accumulate money for a secure retirement.
