This position will be a combination of a Senior Systems Designer AND a Jerr-Dan Application Specialist.

The Senior Systems Designer portion of this role will support engineers with drawing layouts by utilizing computer-aided drafting software. This role will also be responsible for creating new and modified components and Bill of Materials (BOM) in accordance with the Oshkosh standards.

The Application Specialist portion of this role will utilize CAD and/or physical measurements to review and approve or reject all sales order requests for Jerr-Dan carrier and wrecker builds based upon suitability for use, ability to manufacture and unit-to-chassis configuration and mountability.

YOUR IMPACT

These duties are not meant to be all-inclusive and other duties may be assigned.

  • Perform high quality design work through CAD systems to create 3D and 2D layouts of parts, large assemblies and sub-weldments. Work cross functionally and with suppliers to obtain technical data; negotiate vehicle space allocation with interdepartmental design teams.

  • Proficiently create prints following CAD standards and industry best practices. Update current drawings from engineering and markup drawings for lower-level designers. Properly use and understand GD&T practices with minimal guidance from engineers.

  • Create conceptual layouts of new designs for specific assemblies of new or current products. Select parts and/or design component for compliant and cost/quality conscious design. Support calculations (weight, tolerancing) in support of the overall vehicle design.

  • Create, utilize and/or maintain Master Models of Jerr-Dan equipment and OEM chassis Body in White (BiW) 3D CAD models/2D layouts that will be used to virtually/digitality validate/verify layouts and installations.

  • Prepare and create high complexity Change Notice (CN) documents based on BOM and design layouts for appropriate data entry. Assist peers with CNs.

  • Utilize ERP systems to create part numbers following the proper naming process and data entry requirements.

  • Create and revise highly complex BOM lists following department procedures.

  • Provide technical assistance and collect, document, and organize data for prototype, pilot, and production build issues, troubleshooting problematic issues, root cause analysis, and support to engineering teams.

  • Provide technical assistance to our Distributors/Customers for items such as PTO/Pump selection, researching parts, and troubleshooting hydraulic, mechanical &/or electrical issues as required.

  • Approve or reject all sales orders for carriers and wreckers.

  • Provide Engineering Quotes for all special requests related to time & material for custom builds.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent* with four (4) years of experience in design.

STANDOUT QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent* with eight (8) years of experience in design.

  • Experience and/or training in GD&T.

  • Ability to work independently.

  • Experience developing design concepts.

  • Detail oriented.

  • Verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to adapt to a fast pace environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to mentor an individual design team member.

*Note: equivalent equates approximately four (4) years of on the job experience to one (1) year of formal education. External hires are not eligible for equivalency in place of required education.
