Oshkosh Corporation CAE Engineering (Model and Simulation) Intern in Hagerstown, Maryland

As a CAE Engineering Intern you will work with the Modeling and Simulation team using best in class modeling and simulation software tools to perform analysis critical in the design of access equipment. Simulation disciplines include: Multibody Dynamics (MBD), Structures (FEA), Hydraulic systems and Fluid Dynamics. Focusing on one of the simulation disciplines, daily work will be cross-discipline to evaluate performance of the entire physical system. Research is focused on increasing accuracy, speed and flexibility of co-simulated systems, as well as custom tailored software scripts and tools.

YOUR IMPACT

As a CAE Engineering Intern your experience may include:

  • Modifying Multibody Dynamic models to keep in line with latest CAD

  • Performing Multibody Dynamic simulation to evaluate stability, loads, and dynamic response of boom lifts, telehandlers or scissor lifts.

  • Perform Design of Experiments and/or Optimizations on a MBD model to meet a series of performance requirements.

  • Modeling structural components using Finite Element Analysis software.

  • Performing static FEA analysis to evaluate stress and strain in structural components.

  • Use results from MBD simulations and FEA models to perform fatigue analysis.

  • Modeling and simulating hydraulic systems to verify accuracy and performance.

  • Performing Co-simulation of MBD and Hydraulic system models.

  • Work with and augment custom scripts and/or software to automate model generation or data analysis workflows.

  • Perform or assist in the testing of complete vehicles or vehicle components.

  • Use physical test data to perform correlation studies of components or vehicles.

  • Communicate status and results of simulation analysis to internal departments.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Student working towards an undergraduate or graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering or related Engineering field

  • Experience with a programming language (e.g., C++, Java) or scripting language (e.g., python, MATLAB, JavaScript).

  • Willing to travel or relocate to Hagerstown, MD for the duration of the summer 2025 internship.

STANDOUT QUALIFICATIONS

  • Undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering or related Engineering field

  • Experience performing mathematical analysis on kinematic/dynamic, structural or hydraulic systems.

  • Completed any of the following courses: Kinematics, Mechanics of Materials, Dynamic Systems, and/or Engineering Mechanics

  • Experience with any of the following software packages: MSC/Adams, NASTRAN, Hypermesh, or another FEA software package, Simulink, or AMEsim

  • Proficiency with software version control systems: GitHub, Gitlab, Bitbucket
