Western Colorado University Freeride Ski & Snowboard Head Coach in Gunnison, Colorado

Job Description:

The Mountain Sports Freeride Coach (Freeride Coach) is a half-time, year around position which reports to the Assistant Director of Campus Recreation Mountain Sports (ADCR Mountain Sports). The Freeride Coach will work with the ADCR Mountain Sports for guidance on budgets, institutional policies. The Freeride coach is expected to develop and enhance training, competition and team cohesion. The Mountain Sports Freeride Coach works in collaboration with the other Freeride Ski and Snowboard coaches.

Responsibilities:

The Mountain Sports Freeride Coach facilitates Freeride training and practices including dryland training, on snow training and education about equipment maintenance and repair. The Freeride Coach will demonstrate and teach effective ski/snowboard techniques appropriate for Freeride team athletes. The Freeride Coach will plan and execute a competition season through the International Freeskier and Snowboarder Association. The Freeride Coach will apply risk management best practices to all areas of the program, and will communicate and enforce policies that pertain to the team. The Freeride Coach will aid the ADCR Mountain Sports in program recruitment initiatives as well as assess and enhance athlete engagement. Additionally, the Freeride Coach will work closely with the ADCR - Mountain Sports to plan out and track the Freeride team budget. The Freeride Coach will also be responsible for managing travel expenditures using a university purchasing card.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelors Degree, or 4 years of experience, or a combination of the two. Prior experience coaching & competing.

Preferred Qualifications:

2+ years coaching experience and prior experience competing in IFSA competitions.

Compensation:

This is a half-time, year-round position with a salary of $23,000 $24,000. The position is FLSA exempt. Position is eligible for an excellent benefits package including health and dental insurance plans with low co-pays and low out of pocket maximums, generous paid time off, a shared contribution retirement plan and tuition benefits.
