Western Colorado University Director Of Music Education in Gunnison, Colorado

POSITION:

Western Colorado University invites applications for a Lecturer position as Director of Music Education, beginning August 2024.

General area of specialization is instrumental music education and applied lessons in candidate s area of specialty. The successful candidate will teach our music education curriculum and additional courses depending on areas of expertise and department need. Those areas may include Jazz Ensemble, Athletic Bands, class piano, music GE courses, music history, applied guitar lessons, music industry, chamber orchestra, or music theory. The Director Music Education is also responsible for assisting the Director of Bands with logistics of the All-Colorado Honor Band, which is held each Spring semester. This is the instrumental area s largest recruiting event each year. Teaching load is 30 credits per academic year, with the possibility for reassign time to assist with program recruitment and development. There is also the opportunity to develop and deliver innovative courses in music education. This is a one-year appointment with the possibility of renewal based upon strong performance and funding availability.

The Music Department at Western Colorado University has 3 full-time faculty members and approximately 20 Majors and three emphases: Music Education, Music Industry, and Comprehensive Music. We are looking for innovative forward-thinking faculty to help modernize our music education program offerings.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidates should possess a MM (DMA or PhD in relevant field preferred) in music education and experience teaching in public schools. Evidence of teaching excellence and a demonstrated ability to work collegially in a student-centered learning environment while building relationships with external constituents that benefit students is required.

SALARY/BENEFITS:

Salary range is $50,000-53,000 per year. Western offers an excellent benefits package including shared premiums for a comprehensive health insurance plan, dental insurance, retirement plan, life insurance, and other insurance options. After one year of employment, Western provides free tuition for dependents enrolled full time in undergraduate programs for up to four years.
