Summary THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION THAT REQUIRES MILITARY MEMBERSHIP. This National Guard position is for a AIRCRAFT MECHANIC, Position Description Number PDD0479000 and is part of the Mississippi National Guard. Responsibilities As a AIRCRAFT MECHANIC, WG-8852-10, you wiill perform a full range of aircraft maintenance duties including troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, repair and ground testing of assemblies, systems and surfaces for one or more types of military aircraft, fixed and rotary wing. This position is located in an Aviation Classification Repair Activity Depot (AVCRAD). MAJOR DUTIES: (1) Performs inspections, functional checks and preventive maintenance to include phase inspections, daily inspections, pre and post flight inspections and such special inspections. as required, including fuel and contamination checks, oil sampling, and inspection of on board emergency equipment. Conducts checks on hydraulic, electrical, transmission, power systems, etc. (2) Troubleshoots, diagnoses and performs,unscheduled maintenance on assigned and transient aircraft. Performs the full range of repair and testing of aircraft systems, assemblies and surfaces, test equipment, Using a variety of methods involving visual checks and instruments, diagnoses and identifies problem areas and determines the extent of repairs required. Removes components and assemblies, repairs or replaces defective parts and components and reassembles repaired items into the aircraft. Installs, aligns and makes needed adjustments to major components and assemblies such as engines, propeller/rotors, transmissions, hydraulic systems, etc., assisting specialists as required. Accomplishes adjustments to related systems which may be affected by repairs. Conducts ground functional tests of all aircraft systems. Services aircraft with oil, deicing fluid, fuel and hydraulic fluid. Performs inspections prior to takeoff, inspecting for conditions such as oil, fuel and hydraulic leaks, cut lines, tires and loose panels. Completes authorized modifications on aircraft and components. (3) Serves, as requested, on ldaintenance Assistance and Instruction Teams (MAIT) and contact teams to support activities in accomplishment of assigned duties. Performs such travel as necessary (4) May be required to perform such additional duties as fire fighting, aircraft crash/rescue, snow removal, etc. (5) Performs other duties as assigned Requirements Conditions of Employment Military Grades: E4-E6 Participation in direct deposit is mandatory. For positions requiring the operation of motor vehicles, candidates must have a valid state driver's license. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT & NOTES: 1. Must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance of the position 2. Wear of the military uniform is MANDATORY. Qualifications This is an indefinite position, tenure 3, with a time limit determined by the needs of the agency. Any permanent military technician who is selected for this position will become tenure 3. The selectee will receive the same benefits and entitlements as the tenure 1 employee, but will be considered tenure 3 for purposes of reduction in force. You can be terminated at any time with a 30-day notice. incumbent may be converted to a permanent appointment without competition. GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training that has provided the candidate with the skill to remove and replace aircraft parts, accessories, and components, and to make adjustments and settings according to established specifications. Must be skilled in the use of hand tools and test equipment. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Experience or training installing, adjusting, aligning, troubleshooting and functionally testing the various major and minor mechanical and pneudraulic systems on an aircraft during overhaul or modification. Experience coordinating the work of other mechanics, and scheduling maintenance to ensure completion of critical actions and optimum workflow. Must have the ability to instruct lower graded mechanics, military and other personnel in the disassembly and re-assembly of crash damaged engines, transmissions, gearboxes, hydraulic components, and fuel controls sufficient for the exhibit to be returned to its shipping container.
