Summary

Celestica is looking for a senior manager in software engineering with firmware experience who is passionate about leading people to develop high quality, reliable software that works closely with hardware to enable high performance.

The person will be responsible for leading and managing a team of software engineers who develop, debug, test, deploy and support code to be deployed in BMC (board management controllers) and software to control a fleet of BMC.

The Senior Manager, Software Engineering manages interaction with cross functional teams including designers, customers, manufacturing engineering, hardware engineering, product line management, program management and executive leadership.

The person will also inspire the team to innovate and go beyond written requirements to differentiate our products.

The person should be familiar with Agile and other software development practices and be able follow phase/gate quality criteria to ensure robust and high quality software.

Detailed Description

Performs tasks such as, but not limited to, the following:

  • Manage the software team doing the design, development and testing of firmware and applications like BMC and orchestration software

  • Take responsibility for non-technical elements of an engineering project (people, financials etc.)

  • Do detailed project schedules, manage priorities and balance multiple projects

  • Be the primary interface for the team with wider team including software validation, hardware engineers, manufacturing engineering, program management, customer support and executive management.

  • Review and interpret customer specifications and act as primary customer contact when necessary

  • Do continuous improvement of software learning lessons from previous projects, customer deployments.

  • Coach and mentor high performance software engineers in their career and advance their skills

  • Attract and hire a team of high-quality software engineers

  • Interact with open source community

  • Develops deployment strategies and plans.

  • May manage relationships with key vendors/partners.

  • Keep up to date with relevant industry knowledge and regulations

Knowledge/Skills/Competencies

  • Experience in firmware, device driver, boot loader development.

  • Minimum of 3 years experience in managing a team of software developers

  • Project Management - Ability to manage complex, multiple line engineering projects that will also involve other functions. Demonstrate solid understanding of the technical, financial and people aspects of the project. Able to create a project/change management plan and ensure that the project is delivered within the assigned time and budget. Ability to recognize project barriers and develop mitigation plans

  • The following competencies will be required: Coaching and Mentoring; Communication, Negotiation, Presentation skills; Creative Problem Solving; Customer Interaction, Stakeholder Management;

  • Leadership - Demonstrate "People & Team Leadership Behaviors" as per Celestica Leadership Imperatives.

  • Experience in delivering platforms with BMC firmware will be a plus

  • Experience in various storage products (RAID controllers, disk array enclosures, network attached storage systems, and storage servers) and server products (Rack mount server, Blade server, converged server) and enterprise network switch product will be a plus

  • Experience in delivering turn-key solutions for customers

  • Knowledge of the following are preferable: Quality & Lean; D/PFMEA; 8D/Corrective Action; Equipment Safety; Design of Experiments (DOE).

Physical Demands

  • Duties of this position are performed in a normal office environment.

  • Duties may require extended periods of sitting and sustained visual concentration on a computer monitor or on numbers and other detailed data.

  • Repetitive manual movements (e.g., data entry, using a computer mouse, using a calculator, etc.) are frequently required.

  • Occasional travel may be required.

Bachelor degree or consideration of an equivalent combination of education and experience.
