Support the deployment of the JSC vision "Transforming our world, delivering affordable medicines to anyone, anywhere, any day by focusing on driving performance of the manufacturing network, its physical assets, processes, products and technical resources and optimizing Cost of Goods produced.

Provide packaging engineering support to technical design and standards for packaging equipment, secondary and tertiary lifecycle, packaging technical transfer and new product launch projects for all of JSC's packaging sites and external contracting sites, as applicable. Closely work together with other functional areas (Technical Operations, Packaging Operations, Planning, New Product Launch Team, Supply Chain Development Leads, Technical Launch Integrators, site Packaging Engineers, packaging equipment and packaging materials vendors, among others) to achieve business results and serve as a representative for the Technical Operations, Device and Packaging Center of Excellence (CoE). Coordinate activities and technology transfers, new product launch and equipment installation projects in alignment with site management and key stakeholders, internal (JSC) and external (PES). Provide technical support in confirming that packaging technology and Engineering standards are met across the sites.

The Staff Engineer will work with cross functional teams to manage, develop, test, qualify and commercialize pharmaceutical & device secondary package solutions for both new and existing products (including Combination Products) while working in compliance with relevant industry standards and JSC guidelines.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide day-to-day Packaging LCM support to the supply chain.

  • Provide site technical support (internal & external) with packaging related quality & compliance investigations.

  • Work with our packaging sites to identify and deliver cost improvement or cost avoidance projects that result in lower unit cost.

  • Support the sites with line efficiency improvement initiatives / activities, as required.

  • Lead and connect directly to establish collaboration and support partnerships within JSC teams (NPL, TLI, SCDL, GSDO, CLS, DPDS, PES, TO, among others) as required, and with packaging sites internal to Janssen Supply Chain (JSC), as well as Distribution Centers and External Packaging contractors led by JSC, to provide support on different packaging needs related to packaging technology transfers and new product launch projects.

  • Evaluate and assess available or in-development technology to suit existing and new packaging processes and requirements based on patient/end user needs.

  • As required, design and develop secondary packages for efficient equipment and process compatibility, considering patient/end user preferences and limitations.

  • Provide technical input for primary packaging equipment, materials and packages to the Discovery, Product Development and Supply (DPDS) team to assure compatibility between primary and secondary packaging processes.

  • Support local sites in secondary/tertiary packaging projects/events related to operational deficiencies, as required.

  • Provide the technical criteria for new products, processes, Global Standards and systems which influence Senior Management and Site Management decision-making

  • These include requirements for packaging, distribution, shipping solution design as well as temperature control supply and qualification, as applicable

  • Within the context of secondary packaging for new product launches and transfers, drive the development and implementation of leadingedge technology for all packaging locations, internal and external, managed by JSC.

  • Optimize design, program, processes and/or technical platform to meet current and future needs, having knowledge of packaging materials, equipment, and package design/testing

  • Partner with Marketing Companies to effectively support packaging and graphic market and regulatory requirements, as needed.

  • Partner with Regulatory Affairs & Global Graphics Services to incorporate on time copy and legal content to package labeling

  • Plan/verifies and controls project and/or program costs and schedules, as needed.

  • Partner with the DPDS organization to support/ drive primary component (stability critical components) related projects.

  • Participates in risk remediation/reduction and drive toward root cause and robust corrective action/preventative action to improve lifecycle process reliability.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree and/ or equivalent degree in Engineering or related field, is required. Degree in packaging or related area is preferred

Experience and Skills:

Required:

  • Minimum of 6 years of packaging engineering and/or design, or relevant experience is required.

  • Knowledge of packaging equipment is required.

  • Secondary Material packaging experience

  • The ability to lead and/or support multiple projects simultaneously

  • Understanding of GMPs and regulatory requirements

  • Understanding of business requirements, effective communication skills, leadership, and interdependent partnering, conflict and change management

Preferred:

  • Primary packaging material is a plus, package equipment qualification/validation knowledge

  • Understanding of cGMP, Good Documentation Practices, and Regulations is required. Knowledge of temperature control/cold chain distribution and its application to pharma & medical device products

Other:

  • Experience with Web training / Trackwise Change Control and Event Management System Document Management Systems (Global documentation)

  • Fluency in English, required

The anticipated base pay range for this position is $ 90,000-114,900 USD.

The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation’s performance over a calendar/performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company’s discretion on an individual basis.
