Description
Purpose/Summary
As an instrumental member of our Environmental, Health and Safety Team, the Safety Coordinator, Construction Operations is expected to work collaboratively with leadership, operations, and employees to promote a healthy and safe work environment. This individual will be visible on construction jobsites, and will educate, assist, and provide guidance to ensure Fabcon integrates Safety into our everyday Construction Operations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Assist in the development of Environmental, Health, and Safety Programs for Construction Operations
Assist Field Safety Manager in the implementation of the Fabcon Safety Excellence & Leadership (SEAL) into Construction Operations
Conduct Site Safety Assessments (SSA’s) on jobsites.
Collaborate with Field Superintendents/Managers to monitor safety compliance and identity safety issues.
Identify ways to eliminate or minimize safety hazards or risk on jobsites
Support incident investigations as needed.
Assist in new hire safety onboarding (i.e., scheduling training sessions, delivering training presentations, assisting in creation/revision of training materials, issuing safety equipment such as PPE, etc.)
Assist the annual training of employees on safety procedures and compliance topics.
Scheduling and coordination of area specific training (i.e., NYC DOB SST)
Scheduling and coordination of medical exams (i.e., silica medical surveillance, etc.)
Scheduling and coordination of external inspections (i.e., annual rigging, fire extinguisher inspections, etc.)
Assist in preparation of pre-qualification documentation.
Assist in preparation of pre-mobilization safety documentation for individual jobs in accordance with General Contractor requirements.
Assist in tracking of safety paperwork (i.e., pre-operation inspections, toolbox talks, boot reimbursements, etc.)
Support DOT Program, as necessary
Scheduling and coordination of safety related drug testing (i.e., post-accident, reasonable cause, DOT, etc.) in compliance with Fabcon’s Drug-Free Workplace Policy
Participate in EHS or Construction Operations trainings/meetings, as necessary.
Assist in preparation of reports/dashboards for management.
Enhance technical knowledge by reading/attending continuing education workshops or webinars on relevant safety topics.
Basic Qualifications
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
Other Required Qualifications
Relevant industry experience in safety or similar capacity
Knowledge of construction and industrial operations
Strong presentation and training skills
Strong organization and communication (written and verbal) skills.
Possess solid problem-solving and analytical abilities.
Self-disciplined with ability to effectively manage time to complete tasks or meet deadlines.
Ability to establish and maintain record keeping in compliance with all company and regulatory agencies.
Proficient in Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Excel, Word, and Outlook)
Ability to handle confidential or sensitive information.
Exhibits knowledge of appropriate emergency protocols
Preferred Qualifications
- BA/BS Degree in occupational health and safety, safety management or similar field
Physical Requirements
Ability to travel.
Office: Move 25lbs (not for all jobs, reasonable accommodation will be made), work with a computer for extended periods of time.
Construction Operations (Field): Must be able to traverse uneven ground, move minimum of 50lbs, spatial awareness/depth perception, ability to deal with inclement weather, climb on a flatbed semi-trailer, and safely work around industrial equipment/machinery.
Manufacturing Operations (Plant/Yard) (occasionally): Move minimum of 50lbs, spatial awareness/depth perception, walk, climb, bend at the waist, reach, forceful use of hand tools, vocal projection, and safely work around industrial equipment/machinery.
Work Environments
This position encompasses frequent travel to construction sites.
This position may also include occasional visits to manufacturing facilities.
Office: Quiet with some ambient noise, climate controlled, fluorescent lighting. This position will work remotely.
Construction Operations (Field): All types of weather conditions (year-round, Mid-west and Northeast), dirt/dust, noise from heavy machinery/vehicles.
Manufacturing Operations (Plant/Yard): All types of weather conditions (year-round, Midwest & Northeast), dirt/dust, noise from heavy machinery/vehicles, vibrations from machinery and vehicles, loud noises, little to no climate control, varying amounts of light, stairs, narrow walkways.
