What You Will Achieve

We are seeking an Associate Technician to join the Nuclear Magnetic Resonance and Mass Spectrometry (NMR-MS) group within Medicine Design, located at the Groton, CT site. Our group is responsible for maintaining operational readiness of walkup analytical instrumentation including LCMS, GCMS, NMR and IR systems. Specialists within NMR-MS support synthetic chemistry through expert structure elucidation, enable critical operations to support newly synthesized compounds, and develop fit-for-purpose analytical solutions. The successful candidate will be responsible for the optimal functioning of systems across labs. As part of technical operations, you will be a team member who is relied upon to have a good understanding of procedures, techniques, tools, materials, and equipment. Your decision-making will help you prioritize workflows based on the available resources. You will follow standard procedures to complete tasks, some of which may vary in scope, sequence, complexity, and timing.

How You Will Achieve It

  • Proper handling of chemicals commonly used in analytical chemistry labs (acids, bases, organic solvents, non-reactive gases).

  • Maintain general understanding of lab safety associated with handling of flammable chemicals, peroxide forming chemicals and other hazardous chemical compounds.

  • Update inventory levels of laboratory supplies, chemicals, and solvents to ensure continuous process workflows.

  • Operate, maintain, and clean equipment designed for analysis (Waters/Agilent/SCIEX UPLC-MS, GC-MS).

  • Troubleshoot and track routine issues and errors, ensuring timely resolution and accurate documentation.

  • Document experimental conditions within an electronic lab notebook with accuracy and attention to detail (Signals).

  • Efficiently communicate to internal personal and external vendors, ensuring effective coordination for planned outages and repairs.

  • Software knowledge associated with operating laboratory equipment.

  • Manage own time, professional development, meets established timelines for deliverables and takes accountable for own results.

  • Execute tasks and experiments outlined by scientists semi-independently.

  • Ensure work areas are kept stocked, cleaned, and orderly.

Qualifications

Must-Have:

  • Applicant must have High School diploma or GED.

  • From 0-2 years of experience in chemistry laboratory roles or API (active pharmaceutical ingredients) manufacturing operations with experience in a laboratory setting.

  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to maintain an accurate scientific notebook.

  • Familiarity with analytical tools and lab techniques.

Nice-to-Have:

  • Associate degree in Process Technology, Chemistry or related scientific field.

  • Biotechnology Certificate it's a plus

  • Proficiency in using various computer applications including Word, Excel, Chem Draw.

Physical/Mental Requirements:

  • The position requires an ability to work in a laboratory environment performing experiments in a laboratory fume hood, and to set up samples for data analysis.

  • Able to lift packs of 4L solvent bottles.

Non-Standard Work Schedule, Travel, or Environment Requirements:

  • This role is standard day Monday through Friday work shift (40 hours per week)

  • Some off-shift support needed when issues arise.

The salary for this position ranges from $23.28 to $38.80 per hour. In addition, this position offers eligibility for overtime, weekend, holiday and other pay premiums depending on the work schedule and the Company's policies.
