The main purpose and function of the Packer Operator is to package and prepare products for shipping, ensuring bags are correctly filled and palletized in an efficient and orderly manner, and that appropriate consideration is given to safety, quality, and environmental concerns.

Specific responsibilities may include:

  • Fill the appropriate bags to the assigned weight.

  • Place filled bags, by hand and/or machine, in proper configuration on pallets.

  • Shrink wrap pallets, when required, initialing and dating as necessary.

  • Weighing bags at specific times for quality assurance, recording all weights and adjustments on “bag weigh sheets”

  • Assure correct date and product are printing correctly on every bag, changing printer production dates as appropriate.

  • Stacking bags appropriately to proper height and pattern.

  • Operate forklift to transport supplies and finished product.

  • Clean up and maintain a safe, clutter-free work area.

  • Work under close supervision and/or standard operating procedures, including strict safety rules and quality specifications.

  • Make recommendations to supervisory personnel.

  • Interact with other production crew members.

  • Responsible for reporting safety, quality, environmental, and equipment concerns to supervisor.

  • Support and participate in the organization’s Continual Improvement Program to conform to API Specification Q1, 9th Edition requirements by complying with the Quality Policy and procedures and meeting QMS objectives.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Experience:

  • No experience required - will train on the job.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Operation of both simple and computerized packaging equipment.

  • Forklift handling skills.

  • Maintain accurate count of production and materials used.

  • Peer-to-peer and employee-to-supervisor communication skills and interpersonal skills.

Physical and Safety Requirements:

  • Respiratory Protection Program requirements apply.

  • Rotating shift work.

  • Frequent handling of heavy material when utilizing manual packaging equipment.

  • Intermittent handling of heavy materials when using automated packaging equipment.

  • Must be able to work in a fast-moving production line.

  • Frequently work outside in variable weather.

  • Frequently work around machinery and mobile equipment.

  • Sitting, bending, standing, walking, 8-10 hours per day.

  • Frequently lifts up to 50 lbs. and occasionally up to 100 lbs.

  • Must comply with any safety or PPE requirements.

  • Thorough understanding of the three packing operations.

  • Ensure that customers’ requests come first.
