The main purpose and function of the Mill Operator is to safely operate the dryer, mills, and other plant equipment. The Mill Operator is also responsible for bulk railcar and truck loading.

Specific responsibilities may include:

  • Operate plant by maintaining appropriate raw material levels, operating temperatures, and capacities of dryer, mills, and other plant bins, hoppers, and equipment.

  • Take corrective operational action prior to equipment failures.

  • Perform preventative maintenance on plant and cleanup in mill area.

  • Load bulk railcars and trucks.

  • Provide relief for pad person, packer, and loader operator.

  • Clean and check all doors and bulkheads on railcars.

  • Work under general supervision with strictly-adhered to safety rules and quality specifications.

  • Make recommendations to supervisory personnel.

  • Interact with other production crew members.

  • Ensure the production schedule is maintained and the product meets specifications.

  • Ensure appropriate consideration is given to safety and environmental concerns.

  • Achieve specific goals established during the annual performance evaluation.

  • Responsible for reporting safety, quality, environmental, and equipment concerns to supervisor.

  • Support and participate in the organization’s Continual Improvement Program to conform to API Specification Q1, 9th Edition requirements by complying with the Quality Policy and procedures and meeting QMS objectives.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Education and training:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Experience:

  • Three (3) to six (6) months of General Plant experience.

  • Experience working in an API Specification Q1, 9th Edition environment a plus.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Operation of all milling and drying equipment.

  • Front end loader, bobcat, and forklift operation.

  • Basic mathematics.

  • Mechanical.

  • Communication skills, including peep-to-peer and employee-to-supervisor communication and interpersonal skills.

Physical and Safety Requirements:

  • Rotating shift work.

  • Frequently work alone.

  • Subject to dust, noise, and temperature variations.

  • Frequently work around machinery and mobile equipment.

  • Must meet deadlines.

  • Sitting, bending, standing, walking, 8-10 hours per day.

  • Frequently lifts up to 50 lbs. and occasionally up to 100 lbs.

  • Must comply with any safety or PPE requirements.
