Job Description:

L3Harris is seeking qualified individuals to join our Aeronautical Systems Engineering (ASE) team as a manager of a stress analysis team. In this role, you will lead a team of engineers in performing structural analysis for aircraft modifications. You will manage team performance, lead major engineering efforts, monitor program execution for you team, help with monthly labor forecast, and review bids and proposals.

Essential Functions:

  • Use classical hand analysis and/or create finite element models to predict internal loads, displacements, and stresses for complex structure

  • Collaborate with Design Engineers to substantiate aircraft modifications and installations and ensure the design meets airworthiness requirements

  • Document structural analysis in formal reports to show compliance with airworthiness requirements and develop structural tests and post-process the results to establish allowable strength data

  • Lead and coordinate tasks for stress engineers on several contracts.

  • Provide training and mentoring to less experienced engineers.

  • Estimate the scope and labor hours for structural analysis efforts on new pursuits.

  • Update monthly labor forecasts.

    Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, aerospace, or aeronautical engineering and minimum 9 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of prior related experience.

  • Minimum of 9 years of aircraft structural analysis experience.

  • Demonstrated leadership and soft skills.

  • Good computer skills including working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

  • Able to travel to and from flight line and work in aircraft hangar environments.

  • Willingness to travel and work weekends occasionally.

  • Must hold a ACTIVE DoD Secret level clearance which requires US citizenship.

    Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Experience leading a team of stress engineers.

  • Structural substantiation of aircraft structure with classical analysis

  • Finite element modeling with commercial software, including Femap and Nastran

  • Reviewing engineering design data with CAD and PLM software, including NX and Teamcenter

  • Knowledge of FAA or military airworthiness requirements for static strength
