Bon Secours St. Francis Cancer Center - Oncology Research Nurse Coordinator

Primary Function/General Purpose of Position

Clinical Research Nurse Coordinator is responsible for coordination of clinical trial patients and data analysis for therapeutic and supportive care studies.

Employment Qualifications

Education: Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing.

Experience: Minimum 2 years’ experience in an established oncology program or research program

Licensure, Registration, or Certification: Current Licensure with the South Carolina Board of Nurse Examiners. SOCRA or ACRP certification required within two years of role assumption

Essential Job Functions

  • Screens potential patients for protocol eligibility. Presents trial concepts and details to the patients, oversees the informed consent process, and enrolls patients on protocol.

  • Coordinates patient care in compliance with protocol requirements. May disburse investigational drug and provide patient teaching regarding administration. Maintains investigational drug accountability.

  • In collaboration with the physician, reviews patients for changes in conditions, adverse events, concomitant medication use, protocol compliance, response to study drug and thoroughly documents findings.

  • Possesses clinical assessment skills relative to the research patient/family.

  • Responsible for accurate and timely data collection, documentation, entry and reporting, Schedules and participates in monitoring and auditing activities.

  • Participates in required training and education programs. Responsible for education of clinic staff regarding clinical research.

  • May oversee the preparation of orders by physicians to assure that protocol compliance is maintained. Communicates with physician regarding study requirements, need for dose modification and adverse event reporting.

  • Orders all procedures and medications as delegated by the physician in conjunction with protocol requirements.

  • Assist quality management, and data collection as needed.

  • Oversees and supervises the daily work of the Clinical Research Coordinator and Data Analyst staff.

  • Collaborates with and assists research staff, physicians, and other health team personnel in the delivery of coordinated patient delivery.

  • Communicates relevant information to other members of the health care team.

  • Advances personal professional growth through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-services, and workshops.

  • Participates in orientation of new staff members, externs.

Other Functions:

  • Ensures site research quality by practicing in compliance with Bon Secours St Francis Hospital Standard Operating Procedures, principles of Good Clinical Practice and applicable federal, state, and local regulations.

  • Supports and adheres to the Bon Secours St Francis Hospital Compliance Program, to include the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.

  • Adheres to St. Francis Health System rules, regulations, and policies.

  • Performs other duties as assigned. Assists and supports other departments when needed.

  • Familiar with all nursing policies and procedures of practice for the St. Francis Health System and the Oncology Program.

  • Displays excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Possesses knowledge of clinic and nursing structure standards/policies.

  • Demonstrates self-directed learning through completion of orientation requirements and continuing education programs.

Special Note :

  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development of the life span and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age, specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in departmental policies and procedures.

  • Provides patient care to pediatrics, adolescents, adults, geriatrics
