Job Description:

The Group Manager, Specialized Finance manages a team of Specialized Finance Analysts and related processes and activities for a specialized area, operational unit, centre of expertise or finance discipline.

Depth & Scope:

  • Provides people management leadership by hiring the best talent, setting goals, developing staff, managing employee performance and compensation decisions, promoting teamwork and handling any/all disciplinary actions, as required

  • Leads and manages a team of professionals and overall operation of a diverse group in an area of moderate risk, complexity or scope, while growing talent, developing skills and capabilities to achieve career goals, support project / initiative success and achieve business results

  • Ability to present and make recommendations to senior management and executives

  • Ensures an integrated approach with other business areas, broader organization, and enterprise as appropriate

  • Coordinates and prioritizes multiple initiatives and manages resource allocation

  • Establishes effective relationships with different Stakeholders, Business Sponsors, Executives and LOB

  • Provides support and contributes to the overall discipline and strategy for respective areas

  • Provides coaching, mentorship and guidance to practitioners, business, executives within area of expertise

  • Deep knowledge and understanding of businesses / technology, and organizational practices/ disciplines

  • Advanced knowledge of external competition, industry and/or market trends in relation to own function / business

  • Focus on short to medium-term issues (e.g. 6-12 months)

Education & Experience:

  • Undergraduate degree and/or

  • 7+ years of relevant experience preferred

  • Accounting or financial designation preferred

  • Preferred People Management experience or other equivalent leadership experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge or experience with loan accounting and reporting

  • Knowledge of Allowance, Loan and Lease Loss and Delinquency reporting

  • Knowledge of CECL reporting

Customer Accountabilities:

  • Develops and maintains good relationships with key business / finance partners and other stakeholders and effectively communicates relevant / meaningful recommendations on a range of specialized finance management issues or related operational processes

  • Liaises and effectively interacts with internal / external auditors / regulators where applicable and ensures appropriate action is taken where required

  • Acts as subject matter expert for own area and provides guidance/ advice and recommendations to support dealings with internal / external partners

  • Contributes to the analysis, due diligence and execution of potential business restructuring, acquisitions, joint ventures and /or divestitures within own area of responsibility and ensures appropriate Finance areas are involved where necessary

  • Develops and/or assesses significant business cases / new initiatives applying expertise and ensuring criteria for own area are met (e.g., taxation, accounting practices, forecasted rates of return, evaluate outcomes, test assumptions, interface with others for appropriate input, identify benchmarks)

  • Manages / coordinates client requests for finance support and/or reports, ensuring that solutions balance and address business partner needs with overall Finance capabilities. Participates on internal / external committees as appropriate to provide advice / counsel to business / finance partners and/or represent TD's interests

Shareholder Accountabilities:

  • Ensures team adheres to enterprise frameworks and methodologies related to overall business management activities

  • Leads relationships with corporate and/or control functions to ensure alignment with enterprise and/or regulatory requirements

  • Supports team in staying knowledgeable on emerging issues, trends and evolving regulatory requirements and assesses potential impacts to the Bank

  • Assesses / identifies key issues and escalates to appropriate levels and relevant stakeholders and business management where required

  • Identifies, mitigates and reports on risk issues per enterprise policy / guidance and ensures appropriate escalation processes are followed

  • Ensures business operations are in compliance with applicable internal and external requirements (e.g. financial controls, segregation of duties, transaction approvals and physical control of assets)

  • Leads relationships with business lines / corporate and/or control functions to ensure alignment with enterprise and/or regulatory requirements

  • Leads or contributes to cross-functional / enterprise initiatives as an organizational or subject matter expert helping to identify risk / provide guidance for complex situations

  • Protects the interests of the organization – identifies and manages risks, and escalates non-standard, high risk transactions / activities as necessary

  • Manages oversight process, risk-based identification and monitoring of related risks and regulatory compliance across the supported functions, while ensuring key controls and processes are effectively managed

  • Oversees or leads the facilitation and/or implementation of action / remediation plans to address performance / risk / governance issues

  • Keeps abreast of emerging issues, trends, and evolving regulatory requirements and assesses potential impacts

  • Maintains a culture of risk management and control, supported by effective processes in alignment with risk appetite
