Department of Veterans Affairs Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor in Greensboro, North Carolina

**[NOTE: Readjustment Counselors are multidisciplinary and can be filled by: Social Workers, Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselors, Psychologists, and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists.

[The incumbent will be responsible for providing services to eligible individuals who are experiencing a variety of military related psychological and Psychosocial problems. Incumbents must possess the knowledge and experience to independently implement psychotherapeutic modalities in working with individuals, families, and groups to enhance the readjustment of Veterans, active-duty Service members, and their families. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:]{pro="" sans="" source=""}]{pro="" sans="" source=""}**

  • Screening/Assessment - completing a psycho-social assessment and military history.
  • Treatment Planning/Goal Setting - developing a unique treatment plan that reflects a course of therapeutic intervention that will address the needs identified in the assessment.
  • Advocacy - understanding the capacities and operational characteristics of agencies and bureaucracies external to the Vet Center and will act as an advocate in accessing assistance from these agencies when it serves the best interest of the veteran/family without fostering dependency and preserving the right of the veteran client to exercise choice.
  • Crisis Intervention - assessing whether a veteran client may be at risk of harm to self or others.
  • Consult with a team of providers.
  • Education/Health promotion - providing education or facilitates education to elements external to the Vet Center and to veteran and family members on a variety of health and benefit topics common to combat veterans based on age, injury or combat theatre.
  • Coordination of non-institutional and institutional services - ensuring good communication and sound clinical treatment of veteran clients and family members that are shared with other health care providers and community-based agencies.
  • Counseling - exercising a variety of individual, group, and family counseling techniques that are evidence based in the treatment of readjustment counseling problems and demonstrate good clinical practice.
  • Outreach - performing outreach to veterans for the purpose of educating them about readjustment issues and assistance that is available to them.
  • Administrative responsibilities - maintaining case records in accordance with program guidelines and professional requirements.
  • Community/Media Activities - engaging in presenting educational programs about veterans, the Department of Veterans Affairs and the Readjustment Counseling Service.
