Packaging Machine Operator II

The Packaging Machine Operator II maintains safe, efficient operation of packaging line equipment to ensure consistent packaging of product while meeting all quality and regulatory requirements. The Packaging Machine Operator II carries out specific instructions, both written and verbal, to meet production schedule. Serves as critical component of the Packaging team, promoting team morale.

Shift: Weekday PM (Monday-Thursday 6 PM-6:30 AM)

The Role

  • Responsible for the safety, quality operation of his/her equipment, which includes adhering to the startup, shutdown, steady state operation, and troubleshooting of the equipment.

  • Expected to perform basic equipment care, which includes thorough cleaning, inspecting, and basic lubrication; assists with the safe, efficient changeover of equipment.

  • During machine set-up, checks or reprograms the machine for the next scheduled run, makes all minor adjustments, checks scales, and checks overall functions.

  • Makes all necessary adjustments, changeovers from one product to the next & programming of machine throughout the daily run.

  • Promptly reports to the Mechanic on duty all serious equipment malfunctions and the series of events leading up to the problem.

  • During machine shutdown, makes sure the machine is off and clean, sets up for next product run, and reports any problems encountered during daily run.

  • Observes and follows safety procedures; wears all required PPE appropriately. Observes and follows Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), Food Safety Plan (HACCP) and Food Quality Plan (FQP).

  • Start up, shut down, operation and troubleshooting experience across all packaging equipment in use in the department.

  • Can complete operator-centered PMs on all packaging department equipment, including lubrication

  • Other duties as assigned.

The Candidate

  • HS Diploma or Equivalent Required.

  • 2+ years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively to other employees of the organization.

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Basic knowledge of computer processing and mechanical functioning.

  • The employee must frequently lift and /or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb or balance .
