Summary As an Accountant with the Regional Financial Office, you will be responsible for processing accounting transactions and researching financial data in the financial system. You will utilize Agency/Center policies and procedures to complete deliverables, provide guidance, complete daily operations and generate financial reports. Responsibilities Performing cost accounting functions, which includes generating financial reports, analyzing and accurately posting straight-line and/or miscellaneous cost in a timely manner. Preparing and timely completing monthly/quarterly submissions of the Continuous Monitoring Program. Analyzing and resolving outstanding items. Reviewing integrated accounts within financial systems e.g., Systems Applications and Products (SAP). Following accounting principles, concepts, techniques, policies, and procedures applying to routine circumstances. Gathering and organizing documentation of financial transactions in support of financial reviews and audits. Communicating effectively with peers, management, and/or NASA Shared Services Center. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications In addition to the Basic Education Requirement (in the Education section below), to qualify for this position you must meet the requirements below. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. To qualify for GS-11, you must have: a) One year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level: Assisting with preparing, validating, reconciling, or analyzing accounting data in an accounting system (e.g., SAP, etc.); Reviewing transactions to assist with ensuring data validity and accuracy; Supporting audits and reviews by providing documentation or explanation of transactions. OR b) Completed all requirements for a doctoral degree (i.e., Ph.D. or equivalent) in an appropriate field OR c) Completed 3 full academic years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or equivalent doctoral degree in an appropriate field OR d) Have an equivalent combination of experience and graduate study as discussed in a), b) and c) above Your resume must include a clear and detailed narrative description, in your own words, of how you meet the required specialized experience. Education You must have successfully completed a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree that included a major in accounting; or a degree in a related field such as business administration, finance, or public administration that included or was supplemented by 24 semester hours in accounting. The 24 hours may include up to 6 hours of credit in business law. (The term "accounting" means "accounting and/or auditing"). OR Have a combination of education and experience: Have at least 4 years of experience in accounting, or an equivalent combination of accounting experience, college-level education, and training that provided professional accounting knowledge. Your background must also include one of the following: 24 semester hours in accounting or auditing courses of appropriate type and quality. This can include up to 6 hours of business law. A certificate as Certified Public Accountant or a Certified Internal Auditor, obtained through written examination; or Completion of the requirements for a degree that included substantial course work in accounting or auditing, e.g., 15 semester hours, but that does not fully satisfy the 24-semester-hour requirement of paragraph A, provided that (a) you have successfully worked at the full-performance level in accounting, auditing, or a related field, e.g., valuation engineering or financial institution examining; (b) a panel of at least two higher level professional accountants or auditors has determined that you have demonstrated a good knowledge of accounting and of related and underlying fields that equals in breadth, depth, currency, and level of advancement that which is normally associated with successful completion of the 4-year course of study described in paragraph A; and (c) except for literal nonconformance to the requirement of 24 semester hours in accounting, your education, training, and experience fully meet the specified requirements. U.S. degrees must have been awarded from colleges or universities that are accredited by recognized accrediting organizations.
