MyForest Foods Co Food Production Associate in Green Island, New York

At MyForest Foods, we grow and harvest mycelium in vertical farms, producing large structures that resemble whole cuts of meat in as little as 12 days. We then slice these meaty “cuts” and season them to perfection in a traditional brine recipe. MyBacon® is the first of many mycelium-based meatless alternatives. This role performs necessary operational functions, including preparing and producing samples, transportation of raw materials, processing materials, and packaging of finished samples for shipping. Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesPackage and transport raw materialsProcess raw materials into finished samplesUse industrial kitchen equipmentScale up production capacity as requiredTransport finished samples into appropriate storage facilitiesPrepare finished samples for shipping and assist with material shippingInventory materials and ingredientsProcure materials and ingredientsHosting culinary events as neededCollaborate with team on kitchen requirements, research vendors, and make recommendations to management to build out an appropriate production environment and test kitchenComply with and inform the Food Safety PlanDemonstrates commitment to safety of themselves, others, and the workplace in general; actively points out ways to improve safety on the jobDemonstrates alignment with company valuesOther ad-hoc duties and projects from time to time and based on business needsMinimum Qualifications and CompetenciesFood production experience in a culinary or manufacturing environment, preferably with produce and/or vegetarian productsComfortable with industrial kitchen environmentExcited about the meat alternative market with ability to compare traditional products to alternative meat products. We may be able to make an exception for a vegan or vegetarian, but a flexitarian would be a great fit for this roleComfortable working around sharp knives, deli slicers, stoves, ovens, and industrial dishwashersNYS Driver’s license and reliable transportation to transport raw materials and finished productServSafe and/or HACCP/HARPC certifications preferredEmphasis on quality control and cleanlinessConforms to safe practicesRequires a level of interpersonal skills sufficient to work closely with team membersGood verbal and written communicationConfidence in suggesting ideas and receiving feedback on ideasSafety priority mindset and actively points out ways to improve safety on the job.
