COUNTY OF BROWN Legal Assistant - Child Support in GREEN BAY, Wisconsin

JOB REQUIREMENTS: Job Summary Under the general supervision of the Child Support Supervisor, works as a team member with assigned Child Support Specialists by performing initial investigative actions, prioritizing work list items using KIDS (Kids Information Data System). Sends preliminary and progressive letters. Prepares court pleadings and routes for signature and monitors cases to assure proper service of process. Essential Duties Use the KIDS state wide child support computer system to produce documents and letters; enters data, dispositions events and maintains work lists. Reproduces multiple copies of work. Researches public assistance records and other various forms of reference for the purpose of locating participants. Interacts with various agencies/departments to coordinate court calendars and schedules in accordance with Cooperative Agreements with the agency. Assists attorneys with court preparations. Maintains various calendars. Administers DNA testing. Analyzes and interprets information contained in a variety of documents, forms, reports, etc. for processing. Obtains information from the public for the completion of forms, documents, records, etc. Responds to general Child Support questions or refers inquiries to proper department or official. Compiles data and prepares various reports independently. Performs scanning duties into the Laserfiche records retention system. Forwards documents to process server. Forwards documents to program participants, employers and health insurance providers. Assists with receptionist clerical duties as needed. Performs related functions as assigned. ***** OTHER EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge of general office procedures. Knowledge of business English, spelling and grammar. Specialized knowledge pertaining to the department in which employed. Ability to type at a minimum rate of 50 net words per minute. Knowledge of and ability to utilize a computer and the required software. Knowledge of legal terms and procedures. Ability to work independently, as well as in a team environment, and exercise independent judgment. Ability to interview and obtain information from the public. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective positive public and working relationships.
