POSITION SUMMARY The Learning Assistant, through collaboration with the General Studies Faculty, will augment the delivery of instruction by providing direct support to learners for increased success and persistence in their courses. In partnership with faculty, the Learning Assistant will develop informational materials, provide access to resources, and facilitate weekly workshops that provide enhanced understanding of course content through the reinforcement of course concepts. The Learning Assistant will facilitate the development of study skills and assist learners in understanding their individual learning style. This Academic Coach will focus on math related courses. Essential Functions Statement(s) Create a welcoming, comfortable learning environment for students who require additional academic assistance to successfully complete College required math coursework. Serve as the liaison between the Learning and Student Services divisions, faculty and students in order to coordinate, schedule and monitor structured learning activities for students in assigned math courses across the NWTC District. Consult with faculty teams and attend/observe class meetings in order to prepare learning sessions, informational materials and other resources that support student assigned math courses. Facilitate individual and group learning sessions focused on enhancing student understanding of content in identified courses. Assist students with the development of improved study skills. Collaborate with faculty teams and other Learning Assistants to identify structured learning processes and systems, which will assist in the development and maintenance of the Learning Assistant Model. Identify and standardize current best practices across learning divisions. Establish and update data systems with student information. Accurately maintain detailed records of student participation and learning outcomes. Prepare and distribute reports. Serve as advocate for at-risk students as they move through critical course milestones. Refer students to all service resources necessary for their success. Ability to work a flexible schedule and assist with scheduling and coordination of the assistant coaches as needed to meet needs of students. ***** OTHER EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS: A minimum of two years related experience. Experience working with a diverse student population preferred. **An equivalent combination of education and work experience may be considered. Computer Skills Microsoft Office products, electronic mail system, and student databa e systems. Other Requirements Knowledge of adult learning styles and strategies to maximize learning. Experience working with students and knowledge of College programs and resources preferred. Knowledge of the workings of large organizational and public systems and ability to work with detailed regulations and procedures.
