City Of Greeley Sales Tax Technician I - Finance in Greeley, Colorado

Anticipated Hiring Range: $19.57 - $23.29 Hourly

Job Summary: The City of Greeley is seeking a Sales Tax Technician to join the Sales Tax Administration Division in the Finance Department. The Sales Tax Technician reports directly to the Revenue & Business License Manager, and is responsible for prioritizing all sales tax operations, including processing tax information, assisting taxpayers with compliance and remittance of taxes owed to the city, compiling information for monthly sales tax reports, conducting analytical reviews, assigning priorities and work assignments for the sales tax office, processing sales and use tax receipts, assessments, and miscellaneous license applications, and assisting business owners in understanding and complying with City Tax Codes. They collaborate closely with internal departments, external agencies, and taxpayers to ensure accurate reporting and adherence to tax laws and regulations.

Experience, Knowledge, Skills:

Minimum Requirements High school diploma or equivalent. Valid driver's license with a safe driving record in order to drive for the City. Two (2) plus years of experience in clerical accounting, finance, or tax administration. Two (2) plus years of customer service experience. Data entry skills including the use of a 10-key calculator, by touch. Intermediate proficiency in Excel for creating spreadsheets A combination of related education, on-the-job work experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job may be considered by the hiring authority.

Preferred Associate or bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field. Bilingual in Spanish preferred. Two (2) years of experience in billing, collections, licensing, or a related field preferred. Demonstrated experience in research, mathematical computations, and applying basic accounting principles related to accounts payable & accounts receivable. Two (2) years working in a municipal finance department or government agency. Basic understanding of sales tax laws and regulations. Basic experience working with sales tax software or ERP systems. Familiarity with local tax ordinances and regulations.

Ability to investigate techniques useful in assisting in business activity inspections to ensure compliance with sales/use tax requirements and interpret and enforce Municipal Code. Knowledge of sales/use tax audit procedures, general accounting practices, and billing/collection processes. Ability to adapt to changes in tax laws and regulations quickly. Proficiency in modern office practices, methods, and procedures, including the use of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint), data entry (including 10-key touch), and spreadsheet development (Excel) Strong analytical, organizational, and time management skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail. Knowledge of the business and organizational st ucture of Colorado municipalities. Collaboration skills, including the ability to work with others from different areas and backgrounds to reach a common goal. Computer skills, including the ability to utilize Microsoft Office programs (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.) and learn and experiment with new software and systems. Interpersonal skills, including the ability to facilitate interaction, communication, and teamwork between others. Oral, written, and listening communication skills, including the ability to accurately interpret what others are saying and convey messages, information, concepts, and details accurately and clearly. Organizational skills, including the ability to set and meet goals and deadlines, manage appointments, create schedules, coordinate and facilitate meetings, and make decisions. Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple concurrent and competing tasks and responsibilities, and adapt to changing priorities while maintaining personal effectiveness.
