Position Overview
Welcome to the role ofAutomation Controls Technician I. In this position, you will
provide automation support for a wide range of projects as they progress from concept to installation. The projects vary greatly and consist of custom electromechanical equipment, control panels, robotics, vision systems, etc. This individual will work in conjunction with engineers and project managers as assigned. The work will be performed at customer sites, and in the shop and office as needed.
This individual possesses a basic understanding of electrical principles and requires an aptitude and willingness for hands-on work in the shop or field. This position must be willing and able to work a flexible schedule to include travel with overnight stays and overtime as needed.
What You'll Do
- Assist in installing conduit and wire, tubing, sensors, etc.
- Learn to wire a variety of electrical control panels, motors, and other devices
- Learn to perform calibrations on various instrumentation such as pressure sensors, load cells, flow meters, etc.
- Learn to work safely with a variety of voltages such as 24VDC, 120VAC, 480VAC, single phase, and 3-phase
- Learn to interpret electrical drawings and documentation for custom machines, systems, and products
- Assist with configuring controls components
- Assist with gathering materials, components, and tools for projects
- Learn to find and use manuals for proper installation, programming, and troubleshooting of components
- Provide troubleshooting to follow a problem to the source and solve the issue
- Ensure installed products meet quality and scope expectations
- Learn to follow quality control standards and check lists
Working Conditions
- Walk / use hands to finger, handle or feel objects or tools / reach with hands and arms / climb ladders and stairs / crawl / kneel
- Sit, talk, listen, observe, read, write, and type
- Lift and/or move up to 50 pounds unassisted
- Perform work on site in industrial locations with occasional underground and/or at heights
What You'll Bring
- 0-2 years of basic experience in electrical, controls, and automation preferred
- Possess High School Diploma or equivalent
- Valid drivers license required
- Possess willingness to perform hands-on work related to programming and automation controls
- Experience reading and interpreting manuals and electrical drawings preferred
- Must be willing to attend training and remain updated regarding industry standards
- Ability to follow work direction and prioritize assigned tasks
- Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations accurately
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
- Ability to work well both independently and as a team
- Working knowledge of personal computers to include Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to meet deadlines
- Willingness to stretch current abilities to learn new skills
- Willingness to work underground and at heights as needed
