Position Summary

Bridgestone Americas Tire Operations, one of the world’s leading tire manufacturers, is seeking a Lead Environmental Engineer at the Aiken County PSR/LTR Plant.

In this role. you will be responsible for assuring ongoing plant compliance with all State, Federal, and Local environmental regulations / permits, and corporate guidelines, and ISO EMS Standards. More specifically, but not limited to, compliance with air permitting; wastewater, storm water, SPCC Management; SWPPP Management; Waste, Universal Waste, and Hazardous Waste

Management, etc.

This role will initiate and lead plans to ensure efficient and cost-effective strategies for environmental compliance & performance. The successful applicant will possess strong technical knowledge in environmental compliance, and manufacturing plant operations.

• Designing and administering environmental safety and pollution prevention

programs in accordance with organizations and regulatory agreements

• Conducting environmental studies and preparing environmental impact

reports for new construction projects, plant processes, and permits.

• Reviewing and analyzing environmental documentation issued by

regulatory agencies.

• Evaluating proposed regulations to determine financial, industrial, public,

and environmental impact.

• Working with external regulators to resolve compliance issues.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares permits and collects permit data associated with mining which include but are not limited to: Title V Air Permit, Industrial Wastewater Permits (NPDES) and Stormwater Permits.

  • Must develop relationships and develop support of plant staff which are integral to environmental compliance and special projects for air and wastewater quality, storm water management, greenhouse gas emissions, and environmental audits.

  • Respond to emergency situations such as spills and accidental discharges, calling for coordinating services of emergency, fire, and spill response teams (must be on-call at all times).

  • Will work in conjunction with various departments to find out about their future production plans and any changes they may decide.

  • Collects data and maintains required records on air emission inventories, discharge monitoring reports (DMR) and waste management.

  • Establish schedules and methods for providing environmental compliance and regulatory services.

  • Participate in new hire orientation training as it pertains to environmental requirements and review/update annual all employee refresher training as needed.

  • Lead Bridgestone Environmental Education Program (BEEP) and develop relationships for community involvement through the Environmental Learning Center (ELC) outdoor classroom.

  • Lead and maintain ISCC certification, South Carolina Environmental Excellence Program (EEP), Wildlife and Industry Together (W.A.I.T.), 100% Zero Waste to Landfill and South Carolina Solar Habitat Program (Certified Silver Level)

  • Lead and maintain ISO 14001 certifications.

  • Lead and manage on-site contractors responsible for waste and recycling handling and zero waste to landfill management, waste oil collection and

  • Lead and manage on-site contractor responsible for janitorial and process cleaning.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum of 8 years of related experience with a bachelor’s degree; or 6 years and a master’s degree; or a PhD without experience; or equivalent work experience

  • Must understand plant processes and associated waste streams. Be able to devise safe and cost-effective ways for waste collection, recycle, transportation and disposal of solid and hazardous waste.

  • Should have thorough knowledge of applicable air (Title V), waste (RCRA), and water (SPCC & SWPPP) regulations. applicable waste disposal regulations pertaining to air emissions, wastewater discharges.
