Actalent Lab Technician in GRANITE CITY, Illinois

Job Title: Lab TechnicianJob Description

We are seeking a dedicated Lab Technician to join our team. The Laboratory Technician will be responsible for testing both raw and processed fluid milk and soft serve ice cream products using state-of-the-art testing equipment. The schedule for this position is from 2pm to 10pm, including weekends. This role offers competitive compensation, with additional pay for hours worked after 6pm.

Responsibilities

  • Operate milk laboratory equipment, including FT1 component analyzer, Celsis Innovate CellScan analyzer, pH meter, autoclave, refractometer, analytical scales, incubators, 3M petrifilm, and more.

  • Perform approved testing methods for rapid screening of antibiotics and allergens.

  • Conduct analytical testing for components of dairy products.

  • Monitor weight control of finished products.

  • Conduct ATP bioluminescence rapid assays and microbial screening tests for ultra-heat treated (UHT) and extended shelf life (ESL) products prior to release.

  • Perform calibration techniques on laboratory equipment.

  • Prepare Bills of Lading for outgoing product loads.

  • Prepare mix formulations for daily production needs.

  • Identify and resolve technical and instrumental problems.

  • Navigate software programs specific to the dairy industry.

  • Observe and report any deviations from company specifications to management in a timely manner.

  • Plan and organize tasks, manage multiple projects with limited supervision.

  • Ensure compliance with GMP, Safety, and Work Policies.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in a laboratory science-related field (Biology, Chemistry, Food Sciences) or relevant industry experience.

  • Knowledge of sterile techniques, ideally with microbiology exposure.

  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other relevant technology-based programs.

  • Ability to handle physical demands such as lifting objects up to 50lbs.

  • Strong organizational and detail-oriented skills.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently and manage time effectively.

  • Flexibility to work weekends, holidays, and additional tasks as necessary.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in a lab or production setting is preferred.

  • Knowledge of food science is a plus.

  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.

  • Comprehensive training in GMP, HACCP, and Allergen will be provided.

Work Environment

This full-time position involves working primarily in a laboratory setting, with occasional tasks in production areas, including cold conditions. The role requires a balance of sitting and standing tasks, with a strong emphasis on teamwork and flexibility to cover shifts as needed. The work schedule includes weekends and holidays, with overtime available.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $24.50 - $24.50/hr.
