The Job You Will Perform:

Position Scope:

The Process Control Engineer, EIT is an entry-level technical resource supporting the Grande Prairie pulp mill. The position requires individuals to be located in Grande Prairie for this on-site position. The candidate must have reliable transportation. The mill is located approximately 12 km south of the City of Grande Prairie.

Position Responsibilities:

The Process Control Engineer-In-Training collaborates with a variety of functional groups throughout the mill including operations, maintenance, reliability, capital engineering, manufacturing excellence, and Health and Safety. The responsibilities in the three key departmental function assignments include the following:

  • Provide visible and active leadership in delivering excellent safety results

  • Identify, develop, manage and deliver sustainable projects targeted at achieving mill goals

  • Capital and Non-Capital Maintenance projects

  • Non-capital deliberate and continuous improvement initiatives in support of reliability and cost reduction efforts

  • Support cost reduction capital project development and implementation for electrical and controls infrastructure requirements

  • Complete Lean Six-Sigma White Belt and Yellow Belt training

  • Participate in Change Management

  • Identify and implement best practices from across the mill, business, and company

  • Maintenance support during unplanned outages, and planned maintenance outages

  • Lead process control infrastructure assessments and upgrades

  • Support RCFA investigations and identify corrective actions to address root cause of electrical equipment failures

  • Create detailed plans for unique complex jobs

  • Develop QA/QC packages for critical Process Control work

  • AutoCAD skills are a desirable asset

  • Ability to structure project management to plan, resource and deliver projects and initiatives

  • Self-starter, team player

  • Lean & Six Sigma certifications are a strong asset

  • Utilize strong organizational skills to handle multiple tasks effectively

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering is preferred. Chemical Engineering CPC or Computer Engineering degrees will be considered.

  • Eligibility to register with APEGA as an Engineer-In-Training or P.Eng. is required

  • Minimum of 0-5 years’ operations, maintenance, or engineering experience

  • Manufacturing internship and/or co-op experience highly preferred

  • Unofficial Transcripts are required for interview – cumulative GPA of at least 2.8 will be preferred.
