About the Position POSITION: Registered Nurse WORK SCHEDULE: Day/Evening DEPARTMENT: Emergency Department OVERVIEW: This ER has a total of 10 beds that sees abdominal pains, falls, strokes, chest pain, headaches etc within Pediatric through geriatric patients. The unit schedules 2 ED RN's 24/7, Critical Care Unit Coordinator (CNA) 24/7, 3rd ED RN mid morning 24/7, and 4th ED RN mid day 24/7. Critical Care Services ED/ICU are supported with a Charge RN 24/7. ER MD 24/7 in support with an additional ER provider mid day. All shift are 12 hour shifts every third weekend. JOB SUMMARY: A clinically competent, registered nurse who has demonstrated expertise in critical care. Effectively delivers critical care to patients through the nursing process of assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation. This position is responsible to provide timely, accurate and professional nursing care to patients and families in the department. JOB DUTIES: 1. The Registered Nurse demonstrates abilities to manage large volumes of multiple patient, family, staff and physicians priorities within short time frames and organize workload; includes critical thinking, delegation skills and respectful communication. 2. The Registered Nurse provides quality care to all patients and ensures patient safety throughout the continuum of patient care, advocates for the patient respecting advanced directives and patient decisions. 3. The Registered Nurse completes admission assessment according to unit policy, utilizing past medical history, therapeutic communication and physical assessment. Utilizes critical thinking and analysis. 4. The RN Identifies accurately nursing diagnosis/collaborative problems to determine appropriate interventions within the framework of accepted standards of care. 5.The RN assesses the individual needs of the adult, geriatric, adolescent and pediatric patients and developing appropriate plans of care 6. Maintains accurate, objective patient records. 7. Ensures efficiency and accuracy of orders. 8. The RN assumes patient care responsibilities by organizing workload effectively and remaining flexible to environmental changes. 9. The Registered Nurse utilizes the department equipment correctly and efficiently; demonstrates knowledge of special preparations or equipment needed for department specific procedures. 10. Nursing skills/competencies include but are not limited to: IV access, ECG interpretation, hemodynamic monitoring and interpretation, airway management, pain management, neurological assessment, fluid management, infection control measures, respiratory management and sedation/analgesia assessment and monitoring. 11. Communicates professionally and collaborates effectively with patients, families, co-workers, health care team members and ancillary departments to ensure patient centered coordination of care. 12. The RN ensures plan of care is consistent with nursing standards and hospital policy and procedures. 13. Participation in performance improvement activities. 14. Maintains knowledge of The Joint Commission standards and incorporates the standards into the practice of Critical Care nursing. 15. Collaborates with and delegates to ancillary/professional staff as appropriate; assures adherence to their scopes of practice, considering licensure and/or certification. 16. Participates in professional growth and self-development activities to ensure accountability for own professional nursing practice. 17. Participates in staff meetings, committees and projects; actively contrib tes to the Critical Care Services quality and development. 18. Must be willing to be cross-trained to ICU and to be scheduled there to maintain competency.
