The Visual Merchandising team is responsible for creating a customer-focused, efficient shopping environment through the management of the overall look of Meijer stores through semi-permanent signage (i.e., wayfinding, business area signage, seasonal graphics). This includes, but is not limited to, maintaining communication with all stakeholders, managing workflows, timelines, and budgets in the development of all visual merchandising signage, as well as closely collaborating with key internal and external partners.

What You'll be Doing:

  • Develop Visual Merchandising Graphics and Signage Strategy in assigned areas for consistent brand, theme, tone and message in store.

  • Responsible for the overall look and feel of assigned departments, as well as integration across Visual Merchandising team for a total in-store visual experience.

  • Provide creative solutions supporting business priorities and project credible expertise to all levels of merchant business partners including, Buyer, Merchandise Manager and Vice President level team members.

  • Develop and maintain cross-functional, collaborative internal relationship with the following areas: Merchandise Presentation, Store Design, Procurement, Creative teams.

  • Maintain positive vendor relationships across print, fixture and agency partners, as well as product and merchandising vendors in partnership to create innovative customer experiences within stores.

  • Work directly with Store Operations to ensure visual merchandising plans are approved for execution within operational requirements and provide graphics installation instructions for store level execution, ensuring 100% completion.

  • Initiate creative work in the form of a Visual Creative Brief; collaborate with graphic design partners on the creative outcome to ensure strategic and store aesthetic experience requirements are met.

  • Manage Kit of Parts for Visual Packages and create appropriate versions to support execution within prototype variables, within budget parameters set annually.

  • Keep pulse on changing trends and competitive action across retail industry and beyond. Stay up to date on customer research through competitive store visits, trend reports, consumer insights studies, design publications and more. Keeps innovation and ideation top of mind.

  • Strong written and communication skills; can organize and articulate ideas and summaries in written form, along with ability to translate into in-person presentations of new programs and strategies through all levels of the organization.

What You Bring with You (Qualifications):

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent retail experience.

  • 3-5+ years of experience in retail environment.

  • Experience in design, advertising/marketing, is a plus.

  • Knowledge and understanding of branding and key marketing principles.

  • Creative problem-solving skills.

  • Knowledge of visual merchandising and store layouts.

  • Planning and project management skills.

  • Technical, creative and business writing ability.

  • Knowledge of the retail industry.

  • Understanding of specific category product lines and core customer behavior.

  • Office computer skills; ability to learn company systems and tools, preference for Microsoft Office.
