Trinity Health Trauma Registrar (.5 FTE, part time) in Grand Rapids, Michigan

Description:

The Trauma Registrar identifies, codes, collects and enters reportable clinical data into the appropriate Registry database. Performs follow-up on all eligible cases. Provides incidence, treatment and outcome data for quality improvement activities, administrative planning, support programs and research activities. Aids in appropriate management conferences, committee meetings, statistical reports, special studies and research activities.

What the Trauma Registrar will do:

  • Identifies eligible cases for inclusion in the registry database using appropriate resources.

  • Abstracts, codes, and enters clinical and demographic information into the registry database in a timely and accurate manner per American College of Surgeons standards.

  • Analyzes the information in the medical record to determine complications of care or variations from quality standards.

  • Maintains all logs and records as required for the trauma registry.

  • Ensures integrity of the database by identification of data problems or inconsistencies and makes needed corrections.

  • Conducts follow-up of all eligible cases entered into the registry database to ensure completeness.

What the Trauma Registrar will need:

  • Required: High school diploma or equivalent. Plus, college level course in health care or data and information management.

  • Preferred: Associate's Degree in Health Information Management, Medical Terminology or Anatomy and Physiology.

  • Required: Completion of the American Trauma Society's Trauma Registrar Course or state approved equivalent and Association of the Advancement of Automotive Medicine's Injury Scaling Course (AIS - AAAM). Must be completed within 1 year of hire.
